@mrfrederickson You are doing the right thing there by attaching your left hand to your scooter. By doing this it will hopefully help your brain recognize that it’s there and as Bobbi says over time you you might find that small improvements happen.
@mrfrederickson , @Mrs5K has a point. I would also add it’s good for hand and eye cordination.
Thanks Bobbi you are right , at least my scooter has levers on both sides of the D bar, pull back or push away to set direction and speed. My biggest problem is with just the one arm operating my grip on the tiller is nt great so bumps or small rocks snatch the steering from me and is most inconvenient.
The smaller scooter being lighter was easier to control but very uncomfortable.
@mrfrederickson , some scooters have no suspension. I spoke to neighbour of mine, she got rid of her scooter because riding it gave her a vary bad back. Her mobility is bad enough as it is.
I’m hoping it kick starts the grey matter and just maybe the brain will recognise the arm again.
When I had my many tia’s the arm recovered and I lowered my blood pressure by calming down
Now that the arm has been deleted from the brain it needs to be replaced in its original form. Then basic movement may happen. I have some grip and shoulder lift movements so not totally dead numbness and heavy feeling is the current situation
I would persist attempting to use your ‘useless’ side as best you can even if it seems nothing much is happening.
Eventually after quite some time I think you will find it will begin to co-operate a little.
I can’t promise instant results but I think one day you will look back and feel some worthwhile progress has occurred.
The big plus is that you will get out and about and regain a little independence & confidence.
Stroke happened ages ago now. It is behind you. It didn’t win and it can never win.
If it is any consolation, when I came home my right arm just hung down, not connected in any real sense. Over four years there has been improvement and I can get some use out of it. I’ve not been doing any exercise routine but I have tried to include it in my daily activities.
Enough about me.
Best wishes to all working at dealing with the after effects of a stroke. ![]()

@mrfrederickson , @Bobbi is not wrong. Fingers crossed, over time hand and eye coordination should slowly improve. Doesn’t hurt to try.
Thanks Bobbi I will persevere.
I’m forever hopeful but since not a lot has changed non five years I’m realistic.
@mrfrederickson , I always say to other people, “you never know”. Hey, hope against hope.
Part of the thing that keeps me going but progress is barely noticeable and the timescales at huge!
@mrfrederickson , just don’t rush. It’s like when a newborn baby comes into the world, you don’t expect it to run, jump, cycle etc, shortly after it comes out of the womb. Likewise your recovery. It’s best to try and train yourself to adapt to your situation.
unfortunately your advice didn’t arrive in time for me to weaken my good ledg at the ankle through over walking myself in the boy of the moment after a couple not days rest it is coming back , while not fluidly walking I’m no more aware of my left leg and beginning bto use it more consistently. It has shown me how walking may return which is why I got over excited silly old man.
@mrfrederickson , oh well. Nothing wrong in hanging on to hope. It’s something to aim for.
Yes and for the first time in five years I se greater mobility than at any time before.
It’s invigorating for me so I’ll keep on going with my exercise routine and see what happens.
@mrfrederickson , please do so. The more you do, the better.
Thanks and I’ve never been it documented as th return to walking happens most state it was gradual and they never noticed but if I write or document it someone may enjoy the read
Walked after a fashion into the garden centre and bought seedlings which are now in the new raised beds.
I love it when a plant comes together.
Looking good @mrfrederickson great achievement.
Yes and topped it off by falling outside for the first time since last year but got up from ground level to stand and walk inside the house.
Tripped going down a step from the deck to the path, not a soft landing as I’m 2 meters in the air
Confidence a bit dented again
