My hubby had a small medullary stroke 4 weeks ago and is doing amazingly well. There was no paralysis but he did have vertigo which has ceased. He’s walking well without assistance and is very independent.
His team have said that he’s fine to travel to Greece but he has raised the fact he’s fearful have having another one. We have insurance through his company’s private plan and they are aware of the stroke but I just wondered how I purchase mind at rest?
Hi & welcome to the community @Useless
Sorry to hear of your hubbys syroke but glad he is getting on ok.
A lot of people are fearful of having another stroke in the early days and whilst you can’t remove the risk completely you can reduce it. Taking his meds is ine way but eating healthily etc will also help.
When i had my stroke we already had a holiday booked & debated cancelling it but we went ahead and an very glad we did. It was just what was needed after a tough few months. I had my stroke in the Dec and flew in May. The advice I was given was to keep moving my legs during the flight & make sure I had the right insurance.
Welcome to this community which I hope you will not find to be euseless Indeed, I hope it will be very useful to you and your hubby.
I am pleased your hubby is doing well after his stroke and pleased he has been given the OK to travel to Greece.
It is understandable that he (hubby) is fearful of having another stroke, but perhaps he should take some reassurance from the team that has said he is fine to travel. At the end of the day, the risk of having a stroke is always there and that unfortunately is why they happen
I don’t have to make this decision, but if I was in that situation, I would likely choose to go on the holiday, give myself a break, get myself recharged and then come back and face the world There are only so many precautions we can take, but the number of holidays we can take are not that many and so we should make the most of them when we can.
If you find this of any use, I am pleased.
I can also categorically say that Ann @Mrs5K has in my opinion given some excellent advice and if I had come here seeking to put my mind at rest, that (Ann’s advice) do that and so on that basis, I would look the tickets and pack the bags if not already done.
Have a lovely holiday and don’t forget to send us a postcard
Welcome to the community, I’m sorry to hear about your hubby’s stroke but pleased to hear he is doing relatively well.
You’ve already received so great advice, and there maybe some other members that will be along to offer their advice about this. I’ll just add that we have some information about anxiety and fear of another stroke on our website which you may find helpful - there are tips for managing anxiety on there.
