Bad taste

Hi

iqoro arrived today have had one go, will let you know if there is an improvement over the coming months.

Meanwhile doctors again this morning regrading acid mouth and excess saliva, usual
blood tests on monday followed by an endscopy probably to check oesophagus and stomach to find out root cause if not hiatus hernia or oesophagus then possibly stroke related, at least i will know. tablets prescribed for acid reflux not working thus far

Sounds like your drs are being thorough. Although the tests aren’t what we’d all want at least it will help find a cause or at least rule certain things out.

Hope you get some answers soon.

tell you now having an endscopy will be a walk in the park compared to a colonscopy which is not to be recommended

Been there, had both and i agree with you!

I used to be on Omeprazol for similar issues years ago. The endoscopy found 2 stones in the bile duct which were removed there and then. Haven’t needed those tablets since. Could also be a touch of the Helicobactor virus you’ve got. The endo should spot that in the stomach if you have. I kind of hope its one of those you’ve got, because they are a relatively easy fix. Quicker to fix than waiting for stroke effects to correct themselves anyway😄 Good luck with the endo

Neither sound pleasant to me but anything that involves me swallowing something would cause me real issues…i have enough trouble getting my tablets down.

Good luck with it and hope you get the answers to whats causing your problem.

Hi they do sedate you for 30 mins it takes, the equipment they use is very fine and hopefully easier to swallow than most tablets, you recover from the sedation very quickly, and should get report before you leave the hospital.
not much prep required 8 hours fast for food and drink to ensure stomach is empty.

will let you know

hi
my doctor keeps banging on about my weight loss 20 pounds since stroke 6 months ago now he calls it unexplained but my calorie intake and physical activity have both dropped off the scale during this time which to my mind is a very sound explanation but he does not listen, beginning to seriously annoy me

As far as I’m aware weight is common post stroke. Your signalling system has been disrupted and that can include your senses such as taste, even the senses/signals controlling you appetite can been disrupted…broken…fried…due to stroke.

You’re not as physically active as you were before the stroke, for obvious reasons, so naturally you are going to lose muscle tone. And you’re not eating as much to feed your muscle mass, so naturally there is going to be muscle wastage hence weight loss! It’s inevitable! It’s not rocket science, its as simple as 2+2=4. I lost 42lbs (3st) in the first year. Has your doctor not considered any of this?

The thing about gp’s is they know a little about a lot of conditions, enough to make a simple diagnosis or to direct you to the appropriate Specialist in that field. There are some gp’s who even have their own little specialist area but none of them know everything, its just not possible. Some will go and consult with others if they’re stumped; some will go away and do a little homework, but these days I think they’re just too swamped to even do that.

Did you have the endoscopy yet? And have the tablets started to work to relieve the acid reflux?

Hi Well said you have put it beautifully they are always looking for a reason for weight loss they label with a medical condition, you re right they sometime overlook the obvious, because they are petrified of missing something so they cover all their bases before treating what you cam to see them for in the first place.

tablets have started to work, making it easier to eat more, bought some powder meals you mix with water which will be lunch on daily basis, had a whole raft of blood tests yesterday, results later today or tomorrow so had shredded wheat blueberries and honey for breakfast , a large peach as mid morning snack and my liquid food during last hour so much better than a week ago,
many thanks for your reply and interest, will keep you posted, endoscopy date will be determined when blood test results are in.

take care

I think with some symptoms they like to rule out any sinister causes first before they can then say it must be due to xyz. I have lost a tonne of weight since my stroke. I’ve forgotten what it is like to feel hungry. My GP did lots of tests to rule things out and then came to the conclusion that it was my stroke…which I had thought & said all along. Can you imagine though if she’d just gone along with me & it turned out to be something more serious.

Good to hear your tablets are starting to help & that you’re eating better.

Best wishes

Hi Again doctor just rang with blood test results bit to much protein in my kidneys, traces of inflammation and infection but cannot tell right now the cause or where it is seated , so something investigate further it keeps cropping up however, the stroke doctor brought it up as well. little bit of mild anemia otherwise good to go once again. now arranging for the endoscopy which will be done sometime during the next two weeks. he had me do a poo test as well results not yet in, i made it perfectly clear there would not be another colonscopy regardless of the result, had a negative poo test result before the last one which was completely clear really do not know why i did it really no point.

Hi Ann
yes this feeling hungry lark is pain, i feel hungry but the sick feeling in my tum puts me off eating,as you say it might just be something else so on we go to the endscopy to check the top half of my body, bad news is i have to stop taking the reflux tabs for 10 days before hand which is not going to be nice, the blood test results on my kidneys are concerning will need to go over them in detail with my doctor after the test.
be nice to get it all out of the way.
take care Ann

Hi Ann

just got a bolt from the blue my doctor was very economical with the truth just collected my blood test results i have level 3b kidney failure which means my kidneys are only filtering waste at 44% effectiveness so yes another reason for my weight loss makes the endscopy far less important,

do not know what to say to anyone

Try not to worry too much about it all (easy for me to say I know). Have all the tests done you need to then speak with your GP about where you go from there. There could be many reasons for the results & also many ways of treating it. You coukd always see another GP whilst you are waiting to get a 2nd opinion if you want to.

Good luck with it all.

Hi Simon picked up th 13 pqges of test results yesterday, had not idea of kidney failure until then, have got to see doctor about most of them, when get back from break next week so hopefully friday 26th july. so all to be discussed, but there direct link between kidney failure and acid reflux, so may all be related, still going to have the endscopy in case reflux cause visable.

nearly all my meds have kidney damage as a side effect so maybe changing them may help improve kidney function, keep going back to covid in june 2022, followed by blood clot on november 2022 followed by stroke in feb 2024 followed by liver decease in june 2024 can they be all related probably not, but makes you wonder though

lots to find out in coming weeks

That certainly must have been a bolt of the blue for you. I only recently found out that I have “leaky” kidneys and apparently since 2016! GP doesn’t doesn’t seem unduly concerned but I suppose it’s more a case of treating the more risky conditions for me. And, as you say, all medications are a risk to liver and kidneys, that’s why we have those annual blood tests to keep an eye these.

Might be worth having a read up about this, it’s necessarily as dour as it first sounds  But it does mean re-evaluating your current lifestyle changes…again

Hi You

I have read just about everything there is to read about kidney decease what is a leaky kidney do you gt a egfr reading with that have got slight swelling in my feet but not anywhere else foamy wee, but nothing else so far, i believe you mentioned in the past that you are diabetic, which at least gives you some connective reason as to why your kidneys are leaking, i am sorry you now have this to contend with this as well
bit of an overload, what other risky conditions do you have ? Thanks for all the detailed information you as always are very thorough and precise in your comment and information.

problem i have is i am trying to connect the dots and its driving me crackers, in early June 2022 I was fit active with no symtoms of anything then caught covid from a guy at the tennis club who turned up to play feeling unwell but did not test until the following day
the sequence of events after that has to be more than a coincidence November 2022 Blood clot in leg then february 2024 stroke, then July 2024 kidney decease, at my age almost 80 i could normally expect to get maybe a clot or a stroke but maybe not both plus kidney issues, as I still have unexplained inflammation and infection somewhere, my feeling is that covid is the common denominator here, but guess I will never know for sure but will discuss with my doctor, I am looking for reasons where there may be none, other than just body bits swearing out due to old age .

Sorry for the rant, you have enough issues of your own to handle and it is to your eternal credit how you always take time and trouble to get involved with other peoples woes,

Thanks once again for your time and support, i hope I can repay you in kind sometime in the future,
Meanwhile take care and keep the bogeymen away

best wishes

Just been reading up on leaky kidneys seems latest research says that the leaks can be plugged but no more detail that.

I’m younger than you, at 62, but I’ve stopped trying to connect the dots. I had wondered about my covid jab being the cause of my stroke. But I know that my diabetes medications plus the increase of medications since the stroke take their tole on my kidneys, as does age too. Medical interventions plus improved lifestyle is what keeps us living for longer. You and I would both be dead 50-100yrs ago without any of it.

The thing is, our “body bits” do start to fail with age and death is inevitable. Our organs were never born to live forever. How, when and why they fail is as individual as our strokes. Personally, I think covid is still too new to researchers to say one or another if this was the route cause of your current condition.

If it were me, I would ponder less on covid and concentrate more on living and what I can do with my life and enjoy it as much as I can.

As for my leaky kidney…

…I’ll worry about that one if/when it starts causing me issues!
