Hi
you are so level headed, me i need answers or explanation for everything read a book some years ago by Bill Bryson about the human body which was low on jargon and data and very funny. bottom line was that most body organs are really only likely to last around 70 years before wearing out and it is only the wonder of modern medicine that keep them and us going, which is the point you are making,
will try and let go as you suggest, it will be bloody hard, but its that or go slowly mad.
Sometimes you just need something else to fixate your attention on. For me it was fitness, the gym is my happy place
Maybe you need to find a new fascination/obsession/hobby to take your mind off your health issues too. Try looking on your local council website to see what there is for the over 50’s in your area; volunteer at your local wildlife sanctuary, find an over 50’s walking group, take up bowls/golf, chess maybe? And if you’d like help searching online, I’d be happy to help. Helping others also helps me
all good ideas i will find something certainly need to exercise more my muscle wastage is getting horrible to look at, have got a mini gym in my man cave weights bands bells plus a nice rowing machine but the surroundings are depressing and nobody to chat with, but got to start somewhere, got a gym membership but spent so much time at the hospital have not had much time to get there, do you find working out with others focuses you more and you do more? plus need to find way past this acid reflux so i can eat better. whatever i will find something, my lovely wife who is only 65 needs me to she is a retired teaching assistant and next school term will be going back to help children with their reading , she will moan her head off about it when she does but will love it nonetheless.
think she will be happy if a can find something so i shift my bum and get moving again
Thanks again I really do not know what I would have done without you the last few months plus the others on here who chime in from time to time they know who they are.
Oh gosh, absolutely, it does! That’s another reason of many reasons I go to the gym, Strength & Balance class as well as a circuit training. The S&B and Circuit training are run by AgeUK so all members are over 50; there’s is even one lady on the circuit coarse who is 92! And she’s pretty impressive what for what she can do. But its also good socially too as we all tend to go for a coffee and a natter afterwards and this is excellent as my aphasia workout As the saying goes ‘use it or lose it’. Even down at the gym I often stop to chat with some of the other regulars I’ve got to know over the past 2 years. I also go out with a local walking group on Tuesday, but only when the weather is fine That covers about 6 miles and we usually stop half way for a drink/icecream and natter while we get our second wind
But yes it all does help keep you focused and you do more. At the gym I’ve gone from an hour in the beginning, to 2 hours average now. I think one reason my daughter started coming with me is because I’d would forget to come home My son has some gym equipment here at home but I always found so many other things that needed doing around the house. Plus while I’m out doing my fitness my family can’t need me for anything else
And that’s just what you need, a new interest to love and obsess over. You had a stroke, don’t waste this precious second chance at life sitting at home procrastinating. And shake the dust off that gym membership and get down there, stop make excuses for yourself
your theme is to do thing with others make it a social time, i go out walking but its just me and jt gets boring 10 minutes in cannot do 6 miles yet even with a break but as you say use it or lose it i will not ever get to 6 miles or even 3 sitting on my arse thinking about it, same with the gym, going away for few days tomorrow rented a house on the coast my children son in law and grandson will all be their at some point so looking forward to it.
will be in touch of course again to advise progress,
meanwhile thanks again need to call you mrs motivator from now on
Had the endoscopy yesterday no sign of a hiatus hernia so at loss to know how acid is getting from stomach to throat, took some they did a biopsy to test for a thing called h pylori is that related to helicobactor virus? and will have to wait for results. Omeprazol still not working so now floundering. Nothing else visable on endoscopy all normal except for a reddening of the stomach lining which may be related to the inflammation found the on last raft of blood tests.
the blood tests are being done again on 12th August to double check fortunately had appointment made for bloods and face to face with doctor after before work to rule began, so fingers crossed they do not get cancelled,
thanks for all the links, much appreciated, as you can imagine i have read just about everything there is to read on the subject, the more i read the more confused i get, what i am becoming certain of is that there is no solution to the problem, you get it you are stuck with it end of absolutely nothing works but for an hour or two at most.
Yes that is the helicobacter virus I mentioned to you. Untreated it is what usually causes stomach ulcers. The previous inflammation and current redness can also be indicators to the virus, as the virus will continually to flare up and recede, eventually developing into the ulcers whilst left untreated.
The good news for you if that is what it turns out to be, is that the treatment is just a course of antibiotics to clear it up. You can’t have any ulcers as they would mention that. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed that that is what it is
The other thing to maybe reassess is your diet in order to avoid the foods and drinks that trigger the reflux in the meantime, particularly what you have near bedtime.
Or it could be one of your medications which is causing the reflux, such as your BP medication. And maybe get your gp to switch Omeprazol to another such Nexium.
Hopefully that’s not going to be the case if it is helicobactor, you’ve not lost yet, you’ve got to wait 'til all the results are in And I’m routing for the easiest one of all.
Thanks for all your input, seeing my doctor on the 14th so will discuss then unlikely test results will be in before then but can hope, meanwhile will go through side effects of current meds again to see if there are any clues.
As @EmeraldEyes says don’t give up yet. Await the test results & see what they show. Often getting a diagnosis is a case of ruling things out before they can say what it might be. Hopefully the results will be back in time for your GP appointment in the meantime try not to stress as that could be maling your acid reflux worse.
