Many years ago after my heart attacks the hospital offered everyone a package of care. I think what it offered should be part of after stroke treatment for all.
I came across DBT and suggest all affected by stroke should be encouraged to make use of it.
It is free.
It offers courses and reading materials all of which are useful to those affected by stroke.
I am sure it will help address the many problems encountered after a traumatic event.
At first sight it appears to me to be something stroke treatment lacks.
Here is a screenshot of the online course click to enlarge :
I first encountered this sort of thing twenty five years ago after hospitalisation with heart attacks. I found it very useful and think it is relevant in many scenarios including stroke.
I would encourage any and all affected by stroke to give this a try.
A good find Bobbi, I’m sure there are stroke survivors who may find DBT useful for managing the trauma of stroke and subsequent emotional challenges when engaging with others or life’s, at times, challenging state of affairs. I, for one, find it useful. I did see a psychotherapist after stroke and began CBT but it wasn’t for me. My brain and mind are quite busy, so I found CBT to tie them in knots. CBT works brilliantly for others but for me I prefer DBT.
Thanks Bobbi. Inhave signed up too but as you say I think we are all hoping for that miracle that will make us all 100% again!! But will give it a go and try to last the 26 weeks. Janrt
