Watching on Television - more

Just finished watching episodes of a television 6 episode comic drama.

Both Hilary and I enjoyed it, but be warned, it is not for the squeamish.

Two ordinary people somehow get caught up in a world of cocaine, murder, gangs, everyday violence with strange twists, turns and with a climactic finish. Rather strong language too.

Stand back. Prepare to be disturbed. Not to be missed.

Total about 6 hours of viewing. The name?

The Boat Story.

Maybe I’ll try it out

I just watched “Drowning by Numbers” by Peter Greenaway
There’s a new print with new commentary this year by the director, in 4k too
I don’t think it’s for all, but it is certainly my cup of tea.
I am also into French New Wave cinema, all French Cinema, and cinema of the '70s…

That, and listening to vinyl to pass my home alone on Tuesdays

Will Check into those Bobbi and Roland: We finally got into Peaky Blinders: violent but amazing. Last month we watched nearly every Poirot and Vera.
Do you get “Yellowstone” in the UK? also good.

I was tempted to have a watch but wasn’t sure. I am quite squeamish at times but might have a peak to see if it’s my cup of tea.

Ah, hi Matthew

Recently I watched “les Felins” 1964 with Alain Delon, a great film
I love all Tavernier, Chabrol, Rohmer, Melville etc.
What are your favourite directors? got some films to recommend?

@Matthew1798

There is a prime gang boss who is French and central to this story which keeps unfolding right up to the end. All in all a very entertaining tale.

J’aime le jam butty. Je suis from up North, the land of flat caps and whippets.

Rather a lot of blood and bodies from beginning to end, though.

But I will stop here, you must get the plot from watching the episodes for yourself.

Sang froid, peut-être?

Keep on keepin’ on

hey Derek,
I’ve got Peaky Blinders, but not started it yet
I saw Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer but I was lukewarm about it… can’t put my finger on it

The Classe (2008)

It’s about a high school teacher dealing with students who are rough around the edges.

Director: Laurent Cantet.

This is allowed? May we? - mais oui!

It’s the outcome of tous les heures spent dans les jam butty mines.

Might have been a little while since you watched them first time, Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes are on iPlayer. Quality viewing.
Can’t imagine Gene Hunt being friendly to the French or anyone else.

I speak Spanish, but that makes French easier to read, Northerner. Enjoy your movies. I am finding some from the Netherlands, but they always film in Spain. Brazil does pretty good as well. Watching New Amsterdam for now. I am hooked.

@pando Oppenheimer finally came to TV last night. Very fast paced and a bit dizzying, fascinating. Great cast and powerful film. Very long and glad I was at home to watch it. In the theater I would have been up to go to the bathroom at least twice. lol
These physicists had and do have a brilliant mind, way beyond anything I can imagine.
But I’m proud of my ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide…that is the extent of it. :yum

My wife and I watched La Classe tonight, Matthew
We liked it

That teacher was up against impossible odds, of course (isn’t everyone here?)
By the way, what was the French word that Francoise used against the 2 class reps?
(in English they translated it as “sluts”)

Thanks for the recommendation
