*Thanks Andy, kerbs still Mount Everest, but with help of physio I did attempt to goup and down but easier when someone by your side, not sure I would attempt on my own, yet # # # oh for the confidence. I will ask my PT at the gym to place a step in my walking mat, ![]()
I had my stroke in February and I was in rehab for 8 weeks. I went in as a hoist patient and came out able to walk very short distances with my stick. Once I was home I built up the confidence to walk using the furniture and now I can ‘potter’ around the house.
It’s much more than I thought I’d be ever be able to do
Hi @Helen-G and welcome to the community. Sorry to hear of your stroke.
It sounds like you are doing incredibly well with your walking. That’s great to hear & other’s will take hope from your post.
Hope you are doing ok with the rest of your recovery too.
Best wishes
Ann
I can’t walk far but I’m trying to improve that. I’m sure having sturdy little legs like a penguin helped!
Hello Helen - Welcome to the community.
Thank you for sharing your story with us.
I am really impressed with the progress you have made since your stroke and the way you have gone about it ![]()
Having the confidence to do something, trying it and then succeeding is the way forward. You should carry on and you should be proud of your achievements.
There is no need to rush - listen to your body and act accordingly. Building up stamina might take time and once you have done that, you will be able to walk further. In many ways it is no different to preparing for a marathon, you just build up you strength and stamina.
Keep it up ![]()

Thank you- like everyone… I’m impatient!![]()
Nothing wrong with being impatient, though I think you might be more enthusiastic than impatient ![]()
Just beware that stroke has a habit of checking people, so don’t be surprised if this happens - be prepared.

Thanks Anna , I’m enjoying having a rummage and getting to know people
I think we all know the impatient feeling. Although I like the way @ManjiB described it - enthusiastic rather than impatient. I think I might use that when people tell me I need more patience. I am not known for my patience. ![]()
