The thread linked below is full of my early enthusiasm and feedback from friends. I think it is worth reading through. Perhaps I’ll post a copy on my Blog. It’s nostalgia for me:
It’s four years since that destructive event happened to me.
That thread (above) outlined some of my very early successes as I lived through what felt like a search in the dark. I had no idea what I would find or what I could dare to hope for.
Like many others,
I am isolated, vulnerable, damaged, frightened, challenged, overwhelmed. I am alive. This one thing I must use and trust to face the rest.
Tomorrow is becoming today and I will keep on keepin on.
Thank you.
keep a journal. it will support and instruct you when you feel lost and alone.
Look how far you have come since those early days @Bobbi I think it is always good to look back as we forget just what we had to go through to get where we are.
Thank you @Bobbi for this , it;s an amazing insight as well as inspirational , weirdly for me all I could hear in my head at the time was a later Bowiesque song by Spritualized Think I’m in Love all the way down to seeing this live with the huge baptist choir- the brain is a funny thing.
Just watched your What Happened video, I find timelines in photos fascinating, perhaps the amateur anthropologist in me, can’t remember having watched it but enjoyed.
I’m having problems sleeping. I have sleeping pills but do not want to get hooked on them so after a couple of night’s decent sleep after taking them on the third evening decided that I would rely on nature to handle sleep. I had a doze in the afternoon prior and actually had a dream, so that proved I was capable of a proper sleep.
I got rid of the problems that were bugging me when trying to sleep by writing them and filing them on the computer . This convinced my brain that they were being handled and took the pressure off.
When bedtime came I made sure I was comfortable, fed and warm and after a while must have dropped off, but didnt know it because I had no dreams. after a while I got fed up with laying there and not sleeping so I decided to get out of bed and take another tablet and they all agreed it was a good idea.
I got out of bed and started preparations to take a tablet when the penny dropped that "they all’ did not exist so I was actually dreaming and if I was dreaming it meant that I was actually sleeping so instead of taking another pill I had a couple of asprin and went back to bed!
There’s logic for you!
I wrote that letter a few months ago but this is the first time I’ve read it for a while! The getting off to sleep problems is again bugging me but the magic solution in that last letter has not re-occurred and it looks as though I must find another answer.
Can anyone offer a solution ?

Sleep has been elusive for me too, because I get into a spiral of negative thoughts and recollection of bad experiences that I can’t do anything about, because they happened, I dealt with them at the time, and I can’t unhappen those incidents. Then I read about controlled breathing ‘box’ where you breathe in for a count of 4, hold for a count of 4, breathe out for a count of 4 and stay in exhaled condition for a count of 4. I found all of that too difficult, so changed it to breathe in for 4 and breathe out for 4, not letting other thoughts intrude but maintaining the breathing pattern. It does seem to work. It might help you - I hope so.
I use a technique called VDK to switch off those negative thoughts, the more you practice it, the easier it comes to switch them off and sleep in a better frame of mind.
I am a believer in breathing techniques and breath control. There are many references to this in all walks of life. Most will have heard of “Take a deep breath and count to 10” etc.
Will give that one a try SAP. I have a good stock of sleeping tablets but I’m not anxious to use them. Found a good idea yesterday of taking half a tablet before my midday nap. It worked well, allowing me to have a good hour nap and set me up comfortably for the night’s sleep
This went well and I actually had an amusing dream! Will try the same moves today using a quarter of one sleep tablet and if it works will try to dispense with them completely.
