I play a ukulele and banjo, and I’m right-handed, though my symptoms (left sided numbness, cold and stiffness) have continued to increase over almost 4 years. As music is so uplifting and gives me so much pleasure, I am determined to keep playing, and though strumming is no problem, the fingers on the left hand are struggling to play some chords. I can see and hear if they are not in the right places for specific chords, so while I can still do that, I will keep going. Don’t give up!! Try try try!
With all the weird stuff going on around us in this crazy world, stick with music, it cannot be broken, and it lives inside us, so hang on to it!
It’s great thay you are determined to keep playing your music. You will get those chords sorted out again. As you say music can provide so much pleasure.
Hi Bob. I’m a writer (journalist for 40 years) and have also written a book on my stroke experience (Brushes with a Stroke, published in June '25). Currently writing what I expect to be my final book. Sending best wishes. Neil
I’m a saxophone player (only grade 3); my stroke was very gradual, the lowest notes on the sax weren’t playing properly and I thought there was a leak in the sax - in retrospect I realise it was because of weakness in my right little finger! I’m back to it now, 4 months on - very hard work but I was determined. (I have a wonderful teacher). Little finger still a bit weak but much more success with low notes!
