Any idea what electrode treatment does Anne.
I was given it for my arm when I had problems with second splint it caused me to have bad depression and I ended up stopping everything including that in August.
Now I have managed to sort of get this one comfy I’ve restarted doing my exercises but not that yet
As time goes on try & increase how many you do. But only when you are able to.
Electrode treatment is to help
“provide pain relief without medication. It works by stimulating the nerves to either distract them from sending pain signals to the brain, or by stimulating the brain to produce natural painkillers, which are stored within the body.”
It can also help strengthen muscles by causing contractions or improve circulation.
Ok Anne thanks for the advice.
When it comes to squats sometimes I do 3 lot’s in a day as I goto bathroom more than once.
Just had a really bad migraine with aura, calidascope in my eyes and numb fingers.
First one in years so I had cocodamol and it eventually went.
Hope it doesn’t happen again.
Told my dad and as usual he said about his eyes going like that.
Never asked if I was ok.
Sorry you had a migraine. They’re not nice & i hope you don’t get another.
I don’t know your dad but some people just never ask after others & you just get used to their ways over time. Although it still might wind you up. Maybe your dad is consumed by his own health issues & doesn’t think.
So far only had a little migraine today that I managed to get rid of.
My dad is self centred with no common sense.
Today he left a cigarette to go out by itself in the ash tray till I asked him to put it out as I didn’t want to smell the smoke.
The way he’s going I’ll be the one in hospital with bad lungs
Hi Anne just had aura start about 5.15 took some 8,500 cocodamol soluble and eyes are just getting back to normal.
No migraine thankfully.
Is it possible that my brain has made a connection that is causing it to happen?
Did you suffer with migraine aura pre stroke? If so, it is possible that your brain is starting to do some reconnecting. You seem to be getting a few migraines recently & maybe you should see your GP just to get them checked.
Yes I was born with migraines but it wasn’t till I was 20 that the doctors realised it was.
I did have migraine with aura before but years before my stroke
You know what Anne I’m doing squats and 1 leg stands and stretching the back of my foot and trying to walk without using my stick just holding it but I just feel like nothing I do is working.
You have to remember how far you have come. When you started posting you were struggling to walk at all and now you’re walking without your stick. That’s great progress alghough probably not as much as you’d like. Recovery does take a long time and sometimes you can’t see the progress you are making. Often there are small changes going on that we don’t notice, then all of sudden you realise something has improved. Most of all you have to keep going and when you have mastered something you need to up the level e.g. if you do 20 squats without too much difficulty, you should try more or try without holding on etc.
Thanks for the encouragement Anne.
I’m not able to walk totally without my stick.
I still hold it .
Is it best to walk say in the kitchen till my toes stop curling.
This morning I was in bed and my toes suddenly went up not under but I can’t get them to do that.
Alot of times I get a thought in my head saying what’s the point you’re going to be like this always.
I keep trying to fight it but it’s hard.
Physio from rehab let me down and community physio let me down.
No migraine today so that’s good.
Just don’t know how to cope with the way I am.
Thanks for being there Anne
I think if you can you need to try walking in more places than just your kitchen. Are you able to walk from the lounge through to the kitchen for example. What about a small walk outside. Once I was able to walk a few steps in the house comfortably I tried outside. Initially I just went to a few steps and then when I was comfortable with that I extended it a little further and just kept extending it further as I got used to the shorter distances.
I know it can be difficult continuing with rehab when it looks like you’re not making a lot of progress but one thing is for sure if you don’t continue to try you definitely won’t progress. There are no guarantees on how long it will take. For some people it’s a few months for other people it’s a few years.
There is an element of acceptance needed. you need to accept where you are at the moment and adapt accordingly but keep working to improve the situation for the future. There is a chance that you will never get back to pre-stroke Fitness levels but that doesn’t mean you can’t improve enough to enjoy a good quality of life. Have you thought about perhaps buying a mobility scooter. I invested in one of these earlier this year and it has helped my independence greatly and means that I’m able to get out the house more often than I could before.
I think your toes pointing up is a positive sign and hopefully as time moves forward it’ll do it more often so eventually you will be able to do that yourself. It’s possibly a sign that some connections are reforming.
Great that you had a migraine free day too.
Hi Anne I do practice walking holding stick and walking from kitchen to room or other way round.
When it comes to my toes pointing up could it be the lean against wall to stretch back of my foot causing it?
I have just come back from walking to doctors car park like I used to do to see how I am with new stick.
I got back in 25 minutes.
The tennis elbow was painful in my elbow and wrist but I kept going.
Thanks for all the help and support you have given me I’m very grateful
Forgot to ask is it possible to get left side controls on a scooter
Well done on your walking to the drs car park & back. That’s a really great achievement. It is all helping to build your strength back up.
Your lean against the wall exercises I imagine will be helping with your toes. Bit by bit things are slowly moving in the right direction.
You should be able to get left side controls on a scooter. If you mention it to the supplier they will sort it. There are many people who need the controls on a specific side.
Just feel low sometimes Anne and it seems to be a constant battle.
Physio from rehab tied a stretch band to grab rail and got me to pull it across myself sat down he said it’s to strengthen my arm is that right?
Hey Anne how do I get my hand to grab and hold.
John
Yes that should help strengthen your arm. Once you can do that easily enough you should increase the resistance band. They come in different resistances as I found out the other week.
You need to start putting your hand on whatever it is you want to grab and hold. Use your good hand to lift it into position and put your fingers how they would be if you holding on. This should help your brain start to realise the arm/hand is there and over time it will hopefully start to do it itself.
This will take time though . But everytime you would normally use that hand do something then put it where it would normally go. E.g. if you were pushing a lawn lower place your affected hand on the handle and leave it there even if all the pushing is done from the non affected hand.
Thanks Anne you’re a godsend
I’m on baclofen at night for spasms .
I have 3 but still get the spasms then get cramp sometimes.
Are you on anything for spasms Anne
