@PJM21 Hi & welcome to the community. Sorry to hear of your stroke.

Memory problems aftef a stroke are common . You have had an injury to your brain & it needs time to recover. I have attached a link to a stroke association leaflet on memory problems which will hopefully explain things a bit more for you.

Hallo @PJM21 - Welcome to the community.

You’ve had a major stroke and your brain has been affected and so the likelihood of your memory being affected might be high. Not sure how long you’ve had the stroke and what memory tests you may have done, but perhaps you can enlighten us if and when you might want to.

Most stroke survivors are in the upper age categories and so age related health issues come into daily life including Parkinson’s, Dementia etc.

Are you in that age category and so are you now affected both from the age perspective as well as the stroke?

There are things you can do and I note Ann @Mrs5K has sent you a link to some information on memory problems post-stroke which may get you started.

Wishing you all the best.

It is ten years since I had my stroke and I can assure you that your problem is not unusual. For the first few days I had to consult my note book to remind myself of those details. In those days I’d virtually forgotten even how to talk and spent sleepless hours trying to remember and say even the alphabet. It wasn’t long before I found some letters and words were almost impossible to say. Even now after many years of practice the word RURAL defeats me as does PRESCRIPTION and many words with TH in them.
Shortly before the stroke I had written my life’s story for new KIWI daughters in law to read and After a while I got round to reading it myself to remind me of my past.
Much of it was a surprise to me!

It depend which kind of stroke you suffered. My Mother in law now has Vascular Dementia which was cause by her stroke. She still lives at home on her own, cooks, cleans and is very self suffient, but sometimes forgets stuff. I wish you well for the future :four_leaf_clover:
