Husband had a major stroke at 49

Hello, I wanted to share an update on Gary’s recovery journey. It’s been 13 months since the stroke and he’s been home for 2.5 months.

Doing amazingly well and today he took his first steps with a quad stick! He still has extreme weakness in his left side, as well as left side neglect. However, considering what we were told in the early months post-stroke about the severity of his brain injury he’s doing amazingly well,

Life as a carer has been challenging. I’ve felt sad, exhausted and frustrated but I’m following everyone s advice and looking after myself as much as possible. We’re enjoying the simple things in life like a coffee together by our new pond - created especially for Gary’s return home by our friends.

So grateful for the support I got from you in the early weeks xxxxx

Hello Claire (not Lara )

It is wonderful to hear from you.
So pleased that Gary is doing amazingly well given what you were told initially about his brain injury post-stroke.

So glad you able to enjoy coffee by your pond - how wonderful that your friends did this

Wishing you, Gary and your three children all the best.

Please do continue to keep in touch - it’s always great to hear from our friends / fellow survivors/ fellow carers on this forum

Take care, be good.

Hi @Lara1 thank you for the update. It is great to hear that Gary is making such good progress. He has come a long way and I am sure those improvements will continue. Good to hear you are looking after yourself as much as possible too. Your support to Gary has to doubt been invaluable too.

I think we should all enjoy the simple thjngs in life more.

Best Wishes to you both.
