My mum recently had a mini-stroke and has moved in with me. She wants to keep her current house so she can back to see old friends. But because she will be spending most of her time with me, I’m having difficulty finding an insurer who will provide a buildings policy. Any recommendations? Cheers
It is more difficult to insure a home that will be empty for more than 30 days in a row. I would suggest trying an insurance broker as they can trawl the market for you or are likely to be aware of insurers who provide this cover.
A quick search on the Internet has brought up a few companies e.g. insuremy, home protect, everywhen etc. I have never used any of these so know nothing about them but might be worth a look.
Thanks for the response. My initial post was poorly written. I meant to ask if anyone in the same situation has taken out a policy - and whether they would recommend their provider.
Hi @PeterNicholas80 sorry to hear of your mum’s stroke, welcome to our community, I hope you will find this a useful place to be. The contributors here have a wealth of experience and information to share and there is always someone to offer some information and advice, so jump on and ask away if you have any questions or just need to chat.
I had to insure my mum’s bungalow when she went into a care home and there are specialist insurance companies who insure unoccupied properties. I just looked on Google and found a company. It’s more expensive but worth the peace of mind. Good look with your search.
