I went on a scooter ride with a group of walkers for a couple of hours at the Rimrose Country Park and along the Leeds Liverpool canal on a beautiful sunny day.
This link takes you to my blog and a description of the event with photos. It is free to view and I will be pleased if you take a look.
I enjoyed the time in the fresh air, there was a cooling breeze and an opportunity to do some smartphone photography. We were accompanied by a botanist and a guide from the Canal & River Trust.
A friend affected like myself by stroke came along but the group were largely able bodied. It was a great mix and we all got along well together.
Some time ago I was encouraged by @Alex_Moderator to have a go at blogging and produced a few short pieces for the Stroke Association website. When that finished I set up a Blog of my own at Medium so that I could continue with this pursuit that I enjoy.
I think it is a good idea to get involved with a project or activity post stroke. It helps you to begin to find a direction.
A fabulous set of pics @Bobbi. It looks like you had a great day out. I’m so pleased your scooter os opening up a world of otherwise not possible opprtunities.
We were out for more than two hours. Strange I was dreaming ordinary walking last night but really just five minutes would wipe me out. That’s why the scooter makes such difference.
It has its limitations but opens up such a lot of possibilities.
I’ve had people ‘advise me’ they say it is too small for me, it should have a bigger seat, it should have arm rests and it can’t be comfortable.
Luckily I’ve got a pair of cloth ears that hear nothing and I just nod my head.
If I can ride it up and down a towpath and follow rough paths keeping up comfortably with an able bodied group and after two hours congratulate myself on having had an enjoyable afternoon with only a quarter of the charge used then maybe I can be pleased and say I think it was a good buy.
We are all the same, think we know it all, but there are still things to discover and experiences we never expect to try. It is good to stay open minded.
Looks to be a good day out Bobbi, the Romans used to stuff mugwort into their sandals, it helped prevent bruising and callus on the foot while marching along the long Roman roads.
I remember pictures you posted of you being taken for a walk by your cat, a big basket of mushrooms, your dog by a pond and a pig in its pen. At that time I was pretty much bed bound and never thought I would ever manage to take myself out on a sunny day under a blue sky. Things do come together if you give them chance. Must dig my sandals out.
The botanist lady had much to say about the plants she pointed out.
Many were edible, medicinal and also magical. Some like mushrooms had similar examples some innocuous some lethal.
She recommended not trying to taste or eat those she she showed us for a very good reason. The canal towpath is a popular area for dog walkers.
Hey if your scooter suits you what does it matter what others think. They do have their limitations but so does not being able to walk. Cloth ears are definitely the way to go when people are offering unwanted advice
Personally I think you have the perfect little ride for independence and freedom. Ideal for a stroke survivor with only one and leg to get it in and out of the car by yourself. And there’s not as much to it to collapse it the car either. If its perfect for your need no other opinions are needed
