Face to face sessions, informal, friendly, open to all affected by stroke

I can offer online group or individual meetings to anyone using these forums.

If there is interest I will open a regular session for those who would like to take part.

I realise that the prospect of meeting others can be challenging but it doesn’t need to be an ordeal and can be a pleasant diversion from all that comes with stroke.

We all have our preferred times but will need to attend when spots can be offered.

I’d like to suggest a weekday afternoon at around 2.30 pm for a start and ask any who might be interested to post here in this thread.

If there is no interest then obviously there will be no session.
(there has been some interest so a further post (below) will advertise the next session)

You will need camera and microphone and will be able to instantly join a session by clicking a link.
I’m prepared to run a practice session for any wanting to try things out.

Post now to let me know you are interested.

I had a stroke three years ago that left me with right side weakness.

I am interested in ways that those affected by stroke can share experience, learn from one another, help with encouragement and fellow feeling.

Helping to discover you are not alone as you find your way through this very different world.

Hello Bobbi,
I hope this response reaches where it should. Please allow me to join your meetings and forgive my lack of technical knowledge.
Keepin’ it real.

Hi @Cordwrangler

hang on to that thought for now until we see if one or two more will show interest.

My sessions are open to Moderators too, if they fancy showing their face. (We’d love to see you for real.)

Well, as I’ve said in another post, Tue, Thu, Fri are days I can do providing I can use daughters’ ipad. Actually, would Jitzi work well on mobile?

@Cordwrangler @EmeraldEyes and anyone else interested,
Moderators welcome @Anna_Moderator

Jitsi is very adaptable and it has been used regularly on a tablet in my sessions. I prefer laptop PC but the guy that uses tablet has no problems despite keep saying he isn’t tech savvy.

We held a quick trial meeting on Tuesday 8th April for about 40 minutes.

A link to join the meeting was displayed here.

Links for groups have been removed so I will have to post reminders and a link for sessions in a post on this forum area. Keep an eye out for further posts with information.

Sorry I missed this, I was tied up with a work issue. I’ll keep an eye out for potential others, especially those that would be beneficial to someone impacted by stroke, but not in the same way as you super stroke survivors.

Thank you so much Bobbi, that Jitzi meet was so easy to do, couldn’t be more ‘simple stupid’ to use and that’s what I like

@CarlO

There is no requirement to join anything or turn up for every session and it is open to any and all affected by stroke.

It might be interesting to create a group for carers.

You are welcome to join a session to see if it to your liking.

I hope to continue offering this every Tuesday afternoon at 2.00 pm.

@EmeraldEyes
It was great to meet up face to face with Emeraldeyes whose posts I regularly read.

I hope to meet others who appear on this forum.

If anyone wants to know how to create and run a group I could also run a live tutorial.

As @EmeraldEyes says it is very easy to take part on PC, laptop, tablet or phone no need for tech savvy or complicated instructions.

Sessions have yet to be set up but on Tuesday 15th April at 3.00pm we can try it out.

You join instantly by clicking a link which will be provided closer to the time.
It will run on mobile, tablet, PC or laptop.

These sessions run on a browser with no special apps or programs.

I realise that the prospect of meeting others can be challenging but it doesn’t need to be an ordeal and can be a pleasant diversion from all that comes with stroke.

about me
I had a stroke around three years ago. I have right side weakness which reduces my mobility.
I write and provide online meetings for those affected by stroke.

about my sessions
Stroke is very isolating, so meeting up with others affected by stroke can be beneficial.
I feel that the sessions I have provided give an opportunity to discover that one is not alone and that there are others in a similar predicament.

I would like to meet up with you online, face to face, informally in a friendly and relaxed setting.

We can encourage one another, make ourselves available to one another. We can share experience, fellow feeling and humour. We can help discover a better world and a life worth living.

I am interested in using quizzes, relaxation exercises, discussions around hobbies, talking about our experiences and so on in an informal gathering.

I organise small groups rather than larger ones so that participation is open to all.

Aphasia can be challenging but those affected can and do get something out of these meetings.

I’m prepared to run a practice session for any wanting to try things out.

If you like I can show you how to run a group of your own at no cost with no obligation.

Please post here now to let me know if you are interested.

Those showing interest so far (enough to make a group):
Cordwrangler
CarlO
Emeraldeyes
EssexPhil
a.clare
ManjiB
LynneT

Next meeting Tuesday 15th April at 3.00pm

Let’s see how this goes and proceed from there.

Hi Bobbi - if available I would like to join, but I don’t tend to know in advance when I will be available or for hoe long.

Looks like you’ll have a good group to kick things off. Once it’s up and running, I expect others might get wind and sign up

You are doing a grand job.

Hi Bobbi

Luke yourself had numerous strokes 2 x TIA followed by 2x full blown strokes list speech and the ability to write.

Back to work see if that would help not to sure it did as lost all my self confidence in speaking to people.

Sounds like a good thing I would but I am away on leave maybe next one

You are welcome to join any time or have a one on one to build confidence. There is no requirement to speak but we all have ears if you want to have a go.

I’ll look forward to meeting up.

My apologies to those following this thread. It slipped off the front page of the forum and out of my mind.
I completely forgot that I had organised a session. for Tuesday.

I hope no one was disappointed.

Hello Bobbi,
So glad you’re still out there and it wasn’t a case of me not knowing where to look.

Hope you’re having a good day.
