I’ve regularly been notching up 6kms each day in a bid to keep my weight down and keep my left leg from getting worse. Tonight my pain levels being good I wracked up the daily 6kms
Today I pushed on to 8 kms and before getting called to eat tea by my misses. I’m a persistent fellow and insisted I could do another 2kms , which I did
Now completed 10.2kms before stopping.
I’m really pleased and see it as a testimony of my recovery these passed4 years.
Thanks Susan yes she is imp if not by the distance by my determination, a key element in the process of recovery, more to push forward with in the months to come.
Hi Chiz just a static exercise bike, were my success on the road I’d be very excited as I have no nerve to ride on the road anymore after an accident at 15
Well done on your new milestone. Sounds like you are extremely determined. I hope you can continue to progress your personal best as you contimue with your receovery.
I am still impressed, even up to the day before my stroke I was training in my local F45 gym. This will be one of my greatest losses as I loved going so much
Cheers Lorraine much appreciated, today has gone wrong been awake since 4 am with leg pain so have been sleeping in a chair whilst my misses walks the dog!
Hey you’re not dead yet, you only had a stroke so who’s to say you won’t get in the gym again? And after reading through your previous posts, I don’t see why you won’t. And welcome to the forum by the way
It all depends on your level of determination and breaking away from that stereo typical view that now I’ve had a stroke, I’m old and decrepit and my life is now over. That will do it if you let it…if that’s what you want.
But you were in the navy so I’m sure you’ve had plenty of knocks over the years. You’ve travelled the globe and seen a lot of life, so don’t be an invalid, that’ll really drag you down.
Don’t give up and don’t give in to this stroke. It’s a long slow climb, a marathon not a race. Your left arm/hand sound good enough to get working on it. You’re walking, albeit unstable as we all were/are, so keep working on them, they will get better in time.
I’m nearly 4yrs post stroke and just 2yrs younger than you. It took nearly 2yrs to get down to the gym, albeit on unsteady legs, balance issues, not so much now though. But I got there and built all my muscle loss back up again. And believe me, you will have muscle wastage You’re very early days yet so you’ll be doing whole lot of resting, because the brain needs that too.
Life gets a little slower after a stroke but there are still plenty members on who are back travelling abroad, so don’t go writing your life off just yet
That’s ok, just look at it as muscle growth and recovery. And after a rest period you might just find yourself doing a few extra kilometres or just finding it easier to the 10k
Thankyou for your inspirational letter, going for a foot spa,I have 9 days count down to get rid of my IV.
I managed to take my longest walk so far.
I seem to sleep a lot,and feel so guilty I can’t help my wife much.
Kind regards Chiz
PS[1] sleep is your number one friend - take all you can get.
Your wife might not understand that there is an awful lot of repair effort being expended by the neuroimmune system and it has unchallengeable automatic priority over your spoons and your nutrition and your hydration
Look after all of them in that order - IE the wife comes last for a while
Yes we all understand that sense of guilt, that very necessary evil that will diminish over time. But as @SimonInEdinburgh has already said it’s vital to your brains recovery, so don’t fight it. Your wife will thank you in the long run as she gets to keep her hubby
Strokes are actually life threatening events, so be thankful for every day you’ve been given back
