Driving

I wondered how people cope with driving after multiple TIA’S, Denise and I are caravanners ,we both can drive but only I can tow the caravan, so after the latest TIA I felt very vulnerable regarding what would happen should I have another one whilst being many miles from home and not being able to get us home for 4 weeks Is it time to rap up caravanning?

Not sure how it works but I have breakdown cover that includes them providing a driver if I’m declared medically unfit to drive. I’m not sure if that would include towing a caravan home but it may be worth investigating.
I had a camper van a few years ago and I found people on sites to be incredibly helpful, I suffered anaphylactic shock and the site owners offered to drive my van back to the site after I got out of hospital. If you’re not too far from home you may even find that someone from the site would tow the caravan home leaving Denise to drive the car.

Thank you for responding Alfie , yes the breakdown cover I have through the caravan club includes emergency driver cover, but the wording is a little ambiguous, eg:- if there is no qualified/ competent driver in the party ! I always feel that these organisations will try and find a loophole!
Maybe I’m being a little unkind to them
Plus most of the time we are far from home. Our next trip will be 250 miles away.
Kind regards
Stuart

I would argue that your wife, although has a licence, would not be considered safe/competent to tow the caravan but like you say insurers look gor loopholes. I would ring them and ask the question.

My licence covers me to tow things, but I would never do it as I know I wouldn’t be safe.
