Deadly Common Cold?

Hi gang,
I hope your weekend is going well.
For me, could be better.
My partner caught a cold. Last Sunday I get a ‘twinge’ and thought ‘Oh well, looks like I have a cold’.
I then get hit by a ‘bus’ and had to spend a couple of days in bed!!!
My head was so thick. My stroke side extremely cold, and I mean extremely! I lost 8lbs of weight as my appetite went out the window.
I am 10 months post stroke.
I started to think this has got to be more than a cold! Flu??? Covid???
I am slowly fighting back. Not feeling myself yet and has had me thinking.
Are we that vulnerable??
Do things get generally better?
Vacinations look very attractive now!
Take it easy and thanks…

A big generalisation…

No - at least the cold and a cold or anything else generally seems to hit harder
I’m not (& I’ve heard others aren’t) so bad a few year post stroke

And
Yes  I’m not as delicate now at 4yrs ( but I’ve not really had a bad cold or flu recently to really test myself) - deffo don’t want to try covid!

I hope despite the weight loss you are managing good nutrition because recovery benefits from it

Hello Simon,
Thank you for your reply.
The way this cold hit me really did come as a complete surprise. I was not ready for it and it was not mentioned in the manual, oh yeah, I don’t have one
I will now be a little careful in suspect situations!
Looking forward to things improving.
Its rubarb pulling day today and so nutrition should be good

@Poncho a lot of people seem to suffer worse with a cold etc after a stroke although it is probably difficult to say for certain as it could just be a bad strain of the virus going around.

Hope you’re feeling better now.

Best wishes

Hello Ann,
Thank you for replying.
Yes you are right, it is difficult to say for certain, although I have my suspicions.
I am improving thank you and must remember to take it slowly.
Take care…

Are you sure it wasn’t Covid? Both times I’ve had it the symptoms have been similar to that (although, to be honest, I’ve had worse colds in the past). I’d hate to think how bad it would’ve been with the vaccinations.

Hi MinnieB,
Thank you for your interesting reply.
No I am not sure it wasn’t covid. If it was I would be releived and pleased in a way that I had fought it off without a vaccination.
You obviously tested. Perhaps wise.

Hello Dido14,
Thank you for replying and welcome to the troop!
I will just have to buy a test kit if I want to know.
I am now 10 days since getting it and can say I am on the mend.
I am being kind to myself and eating sensibly and keeping hydrated (not alcohol  ), although I tend to over do things and tire quickly!
Thanks again and stay well…
