Dear Online Community,
I return again with another community update.
This week I wanted to let you know about the things that the team are working on in response to some of your feedback.
Staff being visible and engaging with the community
- We have introduced a meet the team page where you can see who the staff team are, read about our roles and the best way to contact us.
- Many of you may notice that @Anna_Moderator has started to take part in conversations. Anna’s participation will be a gradual process and I’m sure will naturally increase over time.
- We cannot be contacted through direct messages. If you want to get the attention of the team, please tag “@” them or contact them through the service desk.
- If your preferred method is email. You can contact us by emailing online.community@stroke.org.uk.
Privacy
We know some people are concerned that their posts can be viewed by anyone online. However, profiles cannot be viewed by users that are not logged in. We are exploring ways of helping people to manage their privacy. A couple of options have been identified:
- Being able to anonymise posts and likes.
- Being able to hide your ‘Activity’ on the community from others.
- You have the option to hide your profile from other logged in members. This can be found in your ‘preferences’ (we will create a new guide for this).
Before making any changes, we will carry out some tests with the development team. If successful, we will write up new ‘how-to guides’ and let the community know about the changes.
In the meantime, we are helping people to make an informed choice by being clear about the Online Community being public.
We have:
- Updated our sign-up form to let people know that the community is public and to advise them not to include personal details in their username.
- Made it clear in our welcome email that the Online Community is public. People have the option not to verify their email if they do not agree with this.
- Made it clear on both our stroke.org webpage and Terms and conditions that the Online Community is public.
Increasing the likes limit
We know that this can be done, but we don’t know how this might affect.
- Badges – if people have a break from the community and then revisit, they may lose badges.
- Trust Levels– we are unsure how having unlimited likes for all trust levels would affect each individual level.
Again, these are things that we must work through and test with the development team. If we find that there are big changes in these areas, we may ask the community for their input. Once testing has taken place, we will let the community know about the changes.
We know that the Online Community has plenty of room for improvement. We will continue to work through suggestions and aim to update the community as we go. Please do send in ideas. We cannot always promise that we can make the changes. But we can promise we will pay attention to what you say.
Thanks for taking the time to read
Nicola
