Clopidogrel

Hello! Like most of us here I take 75mg of clopidogrel daily. I take this at 9am every day - but I’m going on holiday soon and wondering what to do re the time zone change?
To continue at 9am UK time would be like 3am local time, which obviously isn’t possible. Is it safe to just continue it at 9am local even though there’s a 6hr difference?

Anyone got experience with this?

Why not gradually change the time you take it until the times sync. Instead of 9am, do 10 am, then after a while do 11 am etc. Or maybe increase by 2 hours, depending on how soon you are going.

I usually take mine when I get up in a morning. On a weekday that will be 6 am. At a weekend that could be 9 am and never had any problems. If it was me I would take it at the usual time in the timezone you are in…as long as you don’t end up taking 2 in 1 day due to the change of time zone.

You could start adjusting gradually as @wolfie suggests if that would make it easier.

I know this is probably sacrilege but missing a pill one day or starting to take it at a different time shouldn’t cause problems.

Just avoid double dosing and I reckon you’ll be okay, I’m not speaking as a doctor though I’m sure you realise.

Stroke treatment can be very worrisome, but I think there is room for variation at times. Try not to stress about it too much.

Taking medicine at the beginning of the day makes sense, no matter where you are, whatever the clock says.

Enjoy your holiday, take your time and I’m sure the change will do you good.

@matt_d13 I am in total agreement with what @Bobbi says.

I also suggest that the leaflet that comes with your medication will explain how and when you should take the medication and also what to do if you miss a dose.

I make a point of ALWAYS reading the whole leaflet INCLUDING the side-effects so I can act in a timely manner if anything happens e.g. side effects or missed dose etc.

Enjoy your holibobs

Hi @matt_d13

Did you by any chance read the manufacturer’s leaflet?

@matt_d13 I’ve been able to get back to travelling and have read the leaflets for my meds (including clopidogrel). I haven’t been overly worried about exact times, I’ve also missed one of two over the years without issue.

You could speak to a pharmacist who would be able to assist and I would think be easier to get in touch with than your Dr?

Thank you for putting this post together

I’ll read the leaflet and ask a pharmacist if still not clear. Will probably start taking it later here too
