On Saturday 5th October, Yang, I walked 0.75 km at Kings Weston. My main progress here was to do some walking looking up, horizontally. The sun was acceptable, so we spent a few hours on the patio. Another piece of trivia; I started typing with both hands, meaning these very words were created using my affected hand, though sensitivity was still very low. The next day I woke up, erroneously thinking Hallux Day had come one day too soon. After my shower, which I did mostly on my own, I realized that it was my plantar fascia that was burning a bit, not the usual screaming nerve. This lifted my mood, so we did something unexpected. We went to Dundry, with a view to climbing over the gate / stile that had abruptly stopped me in my tracks one year ago. Now it felt like the right time to try had come. Pablo Picasso once said “A painting either succeeds or fails before it is started” in the same way that I suggested attempting this stint for the first time. The bumpy walk, itself, was 0.6 km, and my glute was aching on the way back, but the crowning achievement surely was climbing the gate. The invigorating satisfaction and reward felt on the way home was huge.
Yes, Simon, there are references to 2 outstanding problems I endure. Your “bunion” deduction not too far off, bravo!!
I have a nerve called the Medial dorsal cutaneous nerve which flares up every 3 days. It’s a total mystery, but we know far too little about nerves. I call it Hallux-day, Hallux being the medical name for big toe (also referred to as biggus dickus, when it’s really bad.) The 3 day nerve cycle is superimposed on a 2-day yin/yang cycle, which is more attenuated than ever. This was a good weekend because the two days’ grace happened on Sat/Sun.
If I could resolve this problem with my nerve, which runs up my leg, and has been going on (& off) for 3 months, I would be home and dry. My radiologist friend says this is my body’s best way of coping!
Yang are good days ; yin bad day ( which are not so bad anymore thx to sun recharging mitochondria); I climbed the gate on Yin day). Hallux day is where I am in trouble ; a nerve which is in pain for up to 24 hours
Anyway, I’m delighted with progress, and really going for it !!
Thx, ciao, Roland
coming back was harder, and I hesitated much more. That’s the video clip I favour, because it tells the whole story; the true story. Anyway, it was the first time I attempted anything of the sort. It’s these little triumphs that add up, and lead us to victory. I felt good with balance, throughout. Yes, it was a stressful stint for me, so my right hand defaults to a rigid locked position, which I can undo once normality is restored. If I’d lost balance, I would want my wife’s Cellist hands well away from me to avoid injury. I’m very fussy about doing everything on my own (except for getting into the sea, where I used my wife for balance only, not support). Shoelaces ; I still cannot feel them, though if I could, then I could also do them up.
I have swapped out my physio trainer for a psychologist. The reason is to tackle my bad nerve in my foot which acts up every 3 days; talk about the tales of the unexplained !! She comes this afternoon, so I need to think through what I want to chat about now.
Anyway thanks for watching the stint, and chat soon
ciao, Roland
Excellent work @pando so pleased you are now out and about progressing
I am now three years plus post stroke have having accepted the difference in myself - albeit relatively small compared to some- and virtually all days are Yang days now.
Long may your strides be and the sun shine on you, it’s always there just sometimes hidden behind the clouds
It is a good feeling to attempt something new , I have just got back from Spain following a weeks stay with my son, I was asked going out if I wanted to climb the plane steps to board, I of course said yes and it felt good to go up stairs as I once used to. Airport assistance guided me holding out their arm which also felt normal. So Inam off next week for a 4 note stay at Warners and hope to attempt the spa
