It was the field vision bit that went awry - it’s a specific test but it is important for driving etc. I could have had tired eyes and if that’s the case hopefully next time it will be ok. I did look to see if I could do anything to help improve it for when I go back but there isn’t anything specific other than focus on an object & see what can see in peripheral vision. I feel like I can see ok on the periphery byt clearly something was amiss yesterday. They weren’t able to tell me where the issues were or how much I “failed” by which seems a nonsense to me.
I have worn glasses since I was 16 - a bit too late for 20/20 vision for me
But happy my new glasses are being made and all being well they will work fine with the prisms built in.
Good end to the week on the puzzles - all completed with relative ease, streaks continue into next week at least

Puzzle #824
I notice repeated connections starting to appear - I am pretty sure we’ve had the purple and green connections in the not too distant past and with this being puzzle 824 there can’t be that many “original” connections left, or can there?
Well done on your puzzling. Happy Friday. Hope your week has been going well.
Today’s puzzles went ok. I would have liked to have got Wordle in less but am ending a week well with the puzzles.
Waffle was 3*s today. Ending the week on a streak in double figures

Wordle took 5 attempts but I got there. Struggled to think of words with the combination of letters that I had but eventually my brain woke up and came up with something.
Wordle 1,546 5/6
Connections went relatively smoothly. One small hiccup on set 3 but all achieved pretty swiftly. I think you might be right about repeat connections. Some do feel familiar.

Puzzle #824
Hope all going ok with your mum and you’re managing to find solutions to make her comfortable. It’s a constant challenge isn’t it. You do amazingly well.
Today’s round of puzzles were good. I thought I was going to fluff waffle as I made some incorrect moves but I manager to complete it with 3*s in the end. Phew. I see I am back in the elite team. Aiming for silver again now.

Wordle was a lucky 4. I can’t say I know the word but stumbled across it by trying random letters until it accepted something
Wordle 1,547 4/6
Connections came easily enough too. I did have my usual stumble on set 3. I had worked out the connection but couldn’t figure out the 4th one..

Puzzle #825
It’s been cold & miserable here today. Hope it is better where you are.

Puzzle #826 - saw the purple street connections straight away and others came easy enough.
Enjoy the athletics. I haven’t sat down to watch any sport for some time now. There was a time when I used to be glued to sports. The only thing I am glued to right now is the Barnaby Jones collection on YouTube. I watched the whole set of The Beverly Hillbillies and that reminded me of BJ which I used to watch in the 70s. Before that I watched the whole of The Rifleman collection. I like to watch these because for some reason they are free of adverts which I find very annoying and don’t want to pay for ad free.
Welcome to another new week. This year seems to be flying by. Well, it’s looking like a stormy day here. Very strong winds and a right dreary day. Guess we can’t complain too much as we have had a lovely summer.
Puzzling was ok today.
Waffle streak continues but just the 1* this morning. Deluxe Waffle I did on the last move so got that too.

Wordle 1,549 5/6
Connections went ok. I made one little hiccup on the 2nd lot but realised my error easily enough and then got the rest ok. I did guess a bit on the 3rd but it was more of an educated guess than a random guess.

Puzzle #827
Here’s to a successful puzzling week and continuing streaks for us both.
How’s things with your mum? Have you managed to get her feeding settled again?
I am the same as you about ad free payments. The only TV i pay for is the TV licence. I don’t watch enough to justify the costs.
Can’t say I am noticing the days, weeks, months and years at the moment. I feel as though I am in that Groundhog day situation where every day is the same as the day before and only varies ever so slightly when Mum comes up with a new challenge.
Even the puzzling is a bit like groundhog.
It’s hard to be certain, but we do still feel as though Mum is still improving each day and yes, she has the occasional knock back, but she takes it on the chin and fights on. I wish I could see what’s going on inside her head - there’s something extraordinary going on
Did OK on the puzzles today.

Here we go.
Another Ok/good day with puzzled

Puzzle #828 - Found it hard to guess the third connections to get the fourth by default. First two were OK
I suspect you are too busy looking after your mum to notice what day of the week it is. I think the only reason I know is because of going to work – it keeps you focussed on them a bit and especially when it comes to looking forward to some time off. Not having much change in your daily routine must be quite difficult for you at times and I really hope you do manage to find some time to get out occasionally and do something for yourself.
I guess you’ll never know for sure how your mum is doing as she isn’t able to verbalise it but she is made of strong stuff that’s for sure. Most people at her age would just give up but she clearly isn’t ready to do so. Yes, it’s a shame you can’t read her mind – it would make for fascinating reading. It’s not surprising she has the occasional knock back. Who doesn’t but she always seems to come back from it. I know it isn’t something you want to think about but I hope you are a little prepared for the day she doesn’t bounce back. I always remember my Nan being like your mum and it was the biggest shock when she passed away as she was well into her nineties and we thought she’d live for ever. Although I think your mum might be someone who goes on for many years yet.
Today’s puzzles were ok. Well done on all yours- we were very similar today.
Waffle was 2*s today and we continue on with the streak.
#waffle1334 2/5
streak: 14 #waffleelite
Wordle I did in 4. Not a word I’d have thought of but I was a bit short of letters and it was all I could come up with. A bit of a hit and hope attempt I think.
Wordle 1,550 4/6
Connections started ok again with the first 2 found easily enough. Then I had a little blip and a long think before I got the final 2. But successfully navigated. Same order as you got them
I know what you mean about the puzzles being a bit like groundhog day though.
I’m relatively happy with today’s puzzling could have been a little bit better in waffle and wordle but both of them were achieved.
Connections when smoothly today. I did ponder a few connections that weren’t correct. I thought there might have been a bicycle connection but thankfully I didn’t try that one until after I solved a different connection which then ruled the bicycle connection out.

Wordle took 5 moves but I was pleased with it.
Wordle 1,551 5/6
Hope the rain is less where you are. It’s a proper yuck morning here.
I have thought about this from the day she had her stroke. I remember when she was fighting whilst lying in bed in the hospital, I was talking to her and letting her know that no matter what happens, whatever she wants to do, she should do. Being a Mum she always worried about her “babies” and I wanted to reassure her it was OK and we can look after ourselves.
There were a few occasions in her first month or so when we had this “chat” and I said to her it was OK if she wanted to “go and meet her maker”. At the same time, we were seeing the fight she was putting up and so we wanted the healthcare team to know that she was not yet ready to go and they must do their absolute best to help her.
Since coming back home there have been a few more occasions when she has been demonstrating what I call “ready to go” behaviour and I have had to summon my sister in case this was the moment. I would say to my sister she (Mum) might be getting ready to go. My sister does not like the idea and I am not sure if she is in denial but hopefully she is aware of the inevitable . The one thing we always come back to is she will be at home when the day does come.
Even though I know it will happen, I just keep seeing her getting stronger and there is no sign of her giving up on life even with the challenges she still faces to this day. I am getting the physio back tomorrow to see what if anything can be done after the suspension. But with Mum wanting to go on, we can only try and offer her any support she needs. The only real difficulty is understanding or working out what help she needs.
I suspect that when the day comes, I might be in for a big shock as I just imagine not having her around. Sometimes, I think she plans to outlive us (her children) as she still thinks we’re her babies and she needs to look after us And if this were to happen it would not be a surprise. My grandmother (her Mum) lived to a ripe old age.
I don’t know what it is about her, but she is definitely not ready to go.
Today’s puzzles were good. I had a small blip in the 3rd lot of connections but just the one so happy with that.

Wordle was a very happy 3. Not sure what my streak is as I don’t have an account but seems a while since I missed one although had a few near misses.

Waffle was 3*s again today.

So all in all a good set of puzzles.
I definitely believe your mum is one strong lady. She clearly has a lot of fight in her and isn’t ready to depart this world yet. I don’t think we are ever really prepared for when they go. I know when my dad was terminally ill and we knew he wasn’t going to live much longer (and we didn’t want him to continue to suffer either) it was still a shock when he passed away – although a relief at the same time. That might sound strange but it was how we all felt. He had been very poorly for a very long time and we had lost him well before he actually passed away. It was strange for months when I went to visit my Mum as I still expected my Dad to be sat in the same kitchen chair he had always sat in.
Hope the visit with the physio goes well / went well today. Be interesting to see what they say and also might be interesting to watch your mum’s reaction when they turn up. That might tell you a lot about how she feels about them continuing. Body language often gives away more than peoples words.
Hey Ann - well done on the puzzles and thanks for the note about caring for your Dad in his final days. I know what you mean about the shock and relief which absolutely makes sense. I can’t think it is pleasant watching someone waste away which is why we were very annoyed last year when the gynaecology consultant told us he will not replace Mum’s PEG and that we should let her go or essentially “starve to death” since she is nil-by-mouth. Anyway, somehow that scenario was averted and our bet with the gynaecology consultant is still going.
I had a blowout on the connections - nothing came to be and it was a washout.

Puzzle #830
Happy to continue with Wordle and Waffles.
Wordle 1,552 4/6
#waffle1336 4/5
streak: 30
Physio was not all that good other than them acknowledging they made mistakes and should have done better with the original run. They say they take on board our feedback and would like to offer any help they can.
They reiterated that what they did was still “normal” and other physios would likely do the same but we are welcome to shop around if we so wish. I took that as a kind of double bluff and am still not convinced they have the real understanding of how they can help Mum. Like others before them, they are too focused on Mum’s age and not looking at what she is capable of.
We are going to have to think about how best to help Mum get the help she needs, but right now I don’t feel we are getting benefits from the physios were hoping to get and I think that is down to their approach and lack of communication.
I have no doubt Mum will tell us how she feels when they turn up next time. I am prepared to give them one more chance to prove they can add value.
Sounds like the physio situation is a difficult one. Never easy to know what to do for the best. Fingers crossed the next visit will bring what you hope and then you can move forward from there.
Shame about yesterdays connections. I must be due a miss on them soon.
I found Today’s puzzles went relatively smoothly.
I had a happy 4s with Waffle. I would like to get more 5s but just happy to keep the streak going. I think if I had more time to think about moves I would hit 5*s more often but I don’t have a lot of time with working so just go for it and see what happens

Wordle was a solid 4 moves.
Wordle 1,553 4/6
Connections was my usual pattern of getting the first 2 then hitting a small stumbling block before solving the 3rd one and the last right by default. Successfully negotiated though so all good.
Yay on yesterday’s puzzles. You’re on a great run.
I did okish today. A few close calls.
1* on Waffle. Thought i had blown it but just snuck in.
