Brain Teasers / Riddles etc

Thank you Rebecca :rofl: a happy coincidence :blush:

This is classed as hard - emm we’ll C - You lot are good at these

Q: A man goes out for a walk during a storm with nothing to protect him from the rain. He doesn’t have a hat, a hood or an umbrella. But by the end of his walk, there isn’t a single wet hair on his head. Why doesn’t the man have wet hair?

My guess would be that he is bald. Either that or this particular storm produced no rain

OK, I can see how you fell into the trap Ann - Hilary has been a bit cunning, as always with these puzzles. So, there are some red herrings to throw you off the track and lead you to think this is a conventional rain storm.

But there are may types of storm and so what if, it is the case the man is walking in one of these alternative storm types?

What if the man is walking in a Dust storm?
What if the man is a desert nomad and is walking in a Sand storm?
Lettuce say he is walking in an electrical storm?

All these storm types are dry storms and so if the man had a single hair on his head it would not get wet unless for some reason he was to sweat profusely!

Given the puzzle is classed as hard, could it be as simple as the guy is a bald as a coot and hence no amount of rain is going to result in him having a wet hair on his head, not a single one

I daresay, though it is hard, it is not hard enough to cause Mrs5K to break into a sweat.

I am thinking it’s another one for Mrs5K and beck to the drawing board for Hilary

You could well be right @ManjiB it could be that easy is the answer but because we’re told it’s hard we overthink it and look for other Solutions. But then of course bald could be too easy and I need to think about it a little bit more. I’ve nowconfused myself :rofl::rofl:

I’m sure Hillary will confirm soon.

I’m going to cover all the bases. I think the man is bald :old_man:—and got caught in a sand storm. There! Here’s another riddle for you.

Once upon a time, in the West Lake village, a servant lived with his master. After service of about 30 years, his master became ill and was going to die. One day, the master called his servant and asked him for a wish. It could be any wish but just one. The master gave him one day to think about it. The servant became very happy and went to his mother for discussion about the wish. His mother was blind and she asked her son for making a wish for her eye-sight to come back. Then the servant went to his wife. She became very excited and asked for a son as they were childless for many years. After that, the servant went to his father who wanted to be rich and so he asked his son to wish for a lot of money. The next day he went to his master and made one wish through which all the three (mother, father, wife) got what they wanted. You have to tell what the servant asked the master.

I like your thinking – a bald man in a sandstorm

Oooooooo now that is a very sneaky riddle. You must have been delving hard to find it :blush:

I think it is going to take some unravelling this one. So, my initial thought was he went back to the master and said his wish was that he was granted 3 further wishes. But I guess that might be cheating. Then I thought maybe he decided that none of them had thought about him in their wishes so he was perhaps going to ask for something himself. Or maybe his master was a rich master so he asked for his master to leave him lots of money so he could buy an operation for his mum to get her sight back, have some money for adoption of a son and then his father could have his riches too. I am definitely going back to the drawing board because something tells me that I have just spouted a load of rubbish and am not even close. Tee hee.

I’ll be back.

:ferris_wheel: :ferris_wheel: :ferris_wheel: :ferris_wheel: :ferris_wheel:I can almost hear the wheels turning.

Is it the case the Master has some sort of magical powers? Perhaps the Master is a Genie but for some reason he has been cursed or something and he is about to die but before he does he is able to grant one last wish?

If that is so, then which wish would result in the servants her sight back, the wife having a son and the father riches?

Here I have to make an assumption and that is the Master would wish to live forever (being a genie) and if such a wish were to be granted …

A second assumption is needed, and that would be that having achieved immortality, the genie (Master) would be so grateful he would grant the servant any number of wishes or rather he would just do what the servant’s family has wished for.

But then that would mean the Master would have to know what the family’s wishes were and he would have to be generous enough to grant these without being asked - since the servant can only ask for one thing

This would beg the question why was the Master so blind he could not see the family’s ails and having been served by them for 30 years …

… that is total and utter drivel, is it not?

Oh well, back to the draw ring board and the stick of dynamite. :firecracker:

Hmmmmm so none of the above. My next attempt- the cogs are turning very loudly. A bit rusty maybe.

So, the master can only grant 1 wish. 1 wants sight, the other a son & the other is greedy & wants lots of money.

So could the servant have asked something like:

Please can you grant sight for my mum so she can see her grandson being born after my dad has one the lottery :rofl::rofl:

Me thinks this one is a tad difficult :thinking::grin::grin:

Oh, My goodness, Ann! Are you psychic? You are close enough for me to say, you guessed it. I loved the way you found the pattern of thinking that could bring about the correct result. The exact answer was --The servant said, “I wish that my mother could see her grandson swinging on a swing of gold.”

ManjiB, Your mental meanderings are never “drivel”, but most creative and interesting to read. I agree. The Master should have known the family’s needs. And why would he be so mean as to grant only one wish!

Oh no that is really funny. I only put my answer as a joke as I really couldn’t think of anything.

A gold swing!! I am not sure I’d ever have thought of that.

The servant is a very unselfish man as he asked for things for everyone else but not for himself. Although he would gain a son and maybe his dad would pay for the babysitter from his newly acquired riches :face_with_hand_over_mouth::face_with_hand_over_mouth:

You know, you’re right about the servant being unselfish. He used all his energy to come up with a solution for his loved ones. Accomplishing that was what brought him his happiness.

A woman is sitting in her hotel room and hears a knock at the door. She opens the door to see a man whom she’s never met before. He says, “I’m sorry, I have made a mistake, I thought this was my room.” He then goes down the corridor and into the elevator. The woman goes back into her room and calls security. What made the woman so suspicious of the man?

Oh no, another conundrum. :scream::scream: So I am perhaps wondering whether this is a women only facility and any man would therefore be suspicious or maybe he had shifty eyes or looked like someone who was ready to steal something (carrying a swag bag perhaps)

Then I thought about it a bit more and maybe the answer is a little more obvious. Whenever I have stayed in a hotel (and I have stayed in many over the years) I have never felt the need to knock on a door to my hotel room. Generally because I have been issued a key and therefore wouldn’t need to knock  But then maybe if the hotel only issued one key and he was there with someone else he might have popped to the bar for a drink leaving his companion in the room where the key was needed to turn the electric on so he couldn’t take it with him.

Oh now I’ve talked myself out of the obvious answer. But then again……………I think I am going with he wouldn’t need to knock on his own hotel room door as he would have a key.

This reminds me of a time when I stayed in a hotel in London and about 3 in the morning I was woken to the sound of someone rattling my room door. I suspect they were drunk but it still worried me enough that I couldn’t sleep for the rest of the night. :frowning: I really didn’t like that hotel (that was one of many incidents there) and I refused to ever stay there again. I often went to London for work

There is an obvious answer here, but that would be too simple and so we do need to consider the fact that the man had indeed forgotten that his was in the room on the 9th floor and not on the 7th floor. This is easily done when everything looks the same and after a hard/long day the brain may not be working too well.

But why was he knocking on the door you ask? Well it’s because he was staying at the hotel with is partner, and he needed some fresh air. So he excused himself and leaving the key in the room with his partner. On his return to the hotel from his walk he decided to drop into the bar for a swift half where he met someone and got chatting which led to more drinks. By the time he finally decided go call it a day, he was rather tipsy and hence his mistake of going to the wrong room and knocking on the door - perfectly innocent.

Security found him fast asleep in the corner of the elevator

Me too. Great story, ManjiB. I like it very much–in fact I like it so much that I am tempted to let your explanation stand. However, that would not be right in the Land of Riddles. However, Ann guessed correctly that the woman was suspicious of the man because she, not having your creative mind, figured there was no reason for the man to be knocking at his own door. Hence she called security.

I think @ManjiB definitely gets the prize for most imaginative answer. I have never had a great imagination more of a practical mind. I guess our differences are what make us so good as a team

Jeanne/Ann - you are both very kind with your generous comments on my story telling

Oh dear, Ann! Forgive me! I meant the lady in the story didn’t
have a great imagination. I think you took it the wrong way–that I said you didn’t have a great imagination. I think you are an extremely creative thinker, which makes you also a great logical thinker. A great combination!! :star_struck: You and ManjiB do make a great team–The Dream Team.-- so now, Dream Team try to tackle this one.

Frank and some of the boys were exchanging old war stories. James offered one about how his grandfather (Captain Smith) led a battalion against a German division during World War I. Through brilliant maneuvers he defeated them and captured valuable territory. Within a few months after the battle he was presented with a sword bearing the inscription: “To Captain Smith for Bravery, Daring and Leadership, World War One, from the Men of Battalion 8.” Frank looked at James and said, “You really don’t expect anyone to believe that yarn, do you?”

*What's wrong with the story?*
