Bobbi goes Walkabouts

Not the best no . . . it’s better than the best! Because its true life, its a factual demonstration of post stroke life, and the means available to have an independant life. There’s a huge difference between a healthy, able bodied sales rep demo and a truely disabled person demonstrating disability equipment. Personally I much prefer reality😉

Hello @Bobbi
sorry slow to reply i did my back in. Quite interested in Motability where someone comes to you home. My niece who is disabled recommends it. Will bide my time.

I think is good idea to avoid hasty decisions. I have been very pleased with my purchase but I have heard folk who weren’t so pleased. I had a good idea what I wanted and was lucky I suppose.

I had the booklet from Motability on Saturday. I was wondering if you can take scooters into shops. I’m pleased you had a good experience.

Yes, you can take scooters into shops. Some will be easier than others. Where I live there are some shops that have steps to get in so they are inaccessible on a scooter but many others are completely fine.

Since the Disability discrimination Act shops should provide a ramp, so you can get in if you really want to.

I don’t know if the shops in my local town have temporary ramps they can put out if people can’t get up the steps. I shall have to try and find out. I suspect not as they are really old buildings with narrow pathways out the front & ant ramp would end up out in the road but I will definitely see what I can find out as it does make some places inaccessible to many.

I have now made steps towards getting someone to come to the house about leasing a scooter!

I get PIP for mental health. Does anyone know how much advanced motability one would get for a physical disorder?

You cannot make a new claim for the mobility element of PIP after retirement age.
Any award you already have will continue, but new claims are for attendance Allowance which doesn’t include a mobility element.

Thankyou but i get PIP already though i am coming up 75. It’s for mental health but i get enhanced mobility. My problem is my local motability centre does not seem very good

We’ve been and gone and done it. Bought new rather than lease it. It’s local to us. I tried it out in the care park. More later!

@jenny-wren

Can I suggest you start a new thread with a title that indicates you have a new scooter.

Just like you people will want information and you can share what you know. Pictures and info about the experience of obtaining and using it will be valuable to others in the future. Just a few words can be a help.
You could also add any hints and tips you think might be relevant.

I think your new scooter will open up your world and be great fun to use.

best wishes, Bobbi

'm afraid I’m not very computer literate and don’t know how to start a new thread. I also can’t do pictures. I will tell you more on this thread if I may
