4 years ago I had quite a few TIAs and a brain bleed …. Recently on the 6th July 2026 I had some symptoms of stroke. Ambulance, hospital, CT scan, home … told by nurse from the Stroke Ward that it had not been a stroke but a subarachnoid hemorrhage so they couldn’t help, no treatment needed I could go but phone 999 if I had any more symptoms. I was totally shocked by that and other things which happened. But here I am, 5 weeks in, still no help from anyone, so did my own research …. Also joined The Stroke Association to see what advice they had …. And did find some. However got a phone call from them today to say as it was a SAH it isn’t classed as a stroke so they could no longer help me … if they read on their web page, it describes SAH as a Haemorrhagic Stroke … but still kicked out of any help there …. No help from hospital, nothing …. Just totally unbelievable and I am 80 years old 
Suggest you con tact PALS and your mp to try to get some help.
I struggled to find support after my SAH. I’m not sure if you are on Facebook but there is a very supportive group on there called “Subarachnoid Haemorrhage Group - A Space For You” It was set up by the Brain and Spine Foundation. If you’re able, have a look. I found it a really helpful point of contact.

Now that I have had a little more time to look into this SAH situation. YOUR OWN WEBSITE DESCRIBES A SAUB-ARACNOID HAEMORRHAGE (SAH) AS A STROKE and if you are going to be picky about what type of stroke qualifies as a stroke, maybe I am with the wrong organisation ???

It is a stroke, so I don’t know what is being fed to you otherwise. Besides, I think I remember your earlier posts which entailed a couple of bleeds and TIA, so you already are a stroke survivor and should get all the support you deserve.

Thank you for that , all of you …. I was quite shocked that someone would actually phone and tell me they could not help …. Yes I did have TIAs 4 years ago, plus 2 small brain bleeds … I am just soooo tired and don’t have my usual strength (especially hands) which is soooo annoying… I ended up doing my own research and found out things which I shouldn’t do (including some meds not to take) , and some things I should do … I have contacted OT and someone is coming out this Thursday morning to check things I might be needing, and also regarding my steps back and front into the house as I fell off them some months back ..my fault, had old sloppy sandals on … again, thank you all for the replies xx

I am sorry you are not getting the help you think you should be getting and I am rather surprised this is the case. As bad as the NHS might seem to be at times, I can’t believe they would totally abandon someone in your situation.
It is hard for me to try to pinpoint what the issue might be but things are not adding up and I am wondering if there might be some misunderstanding somewhere
Firstly, clearly you feel abandoned and I think the first thing for you to do would be to contact your GP and speak to them. The hospital must have sent the GP a discharge summary and indeed you yourself should have received the discharge summary when you were sent home after the hospital visit on 6th July.
I appreciate this is a scary time for you but wonder if things are OK but they have not been explained to you.
There are few things here which I’d like to comment on.
The nurse has explained it has not been a stroke, but a subarachnoid haemorrhage. The last bit says “no treatment needed”. This is the bit that to me suggests whatever the problem was it has been resolved and no treatment is needed. If treatment was need, I don’t believe they would have discharged you home - that surely cannot happen? It may be the way it was explained to you has left you unclear what happened and why no treatment was given.
I can see why you might be shocked if you thought you had a stroke and then received no treatment, but what if you hadn’t had a stroke or there was no treatment required i.e. the bleed had already stopped and hence nothing needed to be done.
You say “other things happened” - I cannot comment on this as you do not say what these things were and why you are concerned about them.
Again, I still think there is a misunderstanding here. You are absolutely right that the SAH is a serious condition as documented on the NHS website and so for me, I can’t believe the hospital and nurse would dismiss your case in the way they have - a serious condition is always treated by the A&E and you were taken to the hospital by the ambulance. This suggests they will have carried out the necessary tests and concluded no treatment was required, otherwise why would they discharge you home - this is non sensical.
I urge you to read your discharge note and contact your GP to get peace of mind.

First, I did not get a discharge notice of any kind … nothing apparently could be done, except i got the CT scan after sat waiting a very long time in A&E and not being seen until well into evening, then waiting more hours again till a bed was found the following day. It was then I was told the results of the CT scan by a nurse and told I could go home if I wanted … the hospital is well known for being the last one you would want to go to in this area … if you don’t believe me, then fine, but why bother to reply then … as someone has already said, I am a stroke survivor, after having TIAs and 2 bleeds previously, so yes, I think more should have been done as I feel totally let done by the NHS. What a way to treat (or not treat) a patient who is also a British Military veteran by the way …
My main problem at the minute is washing my hair. I was told by my GP when I contacted them, not to wash my hair for at least 6 weeks as I usually lean over under the shower with head down to wash it, and told it can increase pressure in the brain which is not good …. It is almost 6 weeks now and from what I have read, I need to treat it very gently , but I have psoriasis badly in my scalp and really feel the need to scrub my head clean …. Also been told to try not to get constipated 
. Just makes me too aware of every little tingle I can feel in my head at the moment , but probably a good thing I have short hair and not too much of it at the moment x
Oh i don’t think I could go 6 weeks without washing my hair. That woukd drive me daft…but I understand why. You can buy dry shampoo I think. We had some for my dad when he was very poorly.
I should think you are hyper aware of every little twinge. I was the same after my stroke & even reluctant to move my head in case my artery split again.
