Advice for finding a private Physio

Hi

I’m looking for a qualified physiotherapist who has experience of working with ventilated people. But their focus would be on strengthening limbs, improving mobility. Any advice on who to check with, or if you know somebody who fits that criteria.

Need to able to visit a care home.

Also, welcome and advice about getting the right therapist.

I wouldsuggest you contact the Stroke Association Helpline 0303 3033 100 who will be able to give you details of services in your area that can help.

Hi @BiggsFam and welcome to our community. We are a merry band of stroke survivors and their carers and families. Between us we have a wealth of information and experience and I hope you will find this a useful place to be.

I’m 9 years post stroke following a hemorrhagic stroke which paralysed my left side. After being discharged from hospital and having the standard 7 weeks physiotherapy, I googled “Neuro Physiotherapists in my area” and was lucky to find a brilliant Neuro Physiotherapist, who came to our house every 2 weeks for nearly a year. Although it’s very expensive (at the time was (£105 an hour), in my experience was worth every penny. I have since had physiotherapy at a local Neuro Rehab Clinic and also at a local hospital with the Neuro Rehabilitation Team, who also came to our house at the beginning. I’m sure you will find someone who will visit the care home.

My husband had his first session with a private physio last week. She has worked in hospitals with Stroke patients in the past. Someone else recommended her. She seems very good and very thorough and left exercises for him to do at home too. She charges £110 an hour which is very expensive but if it helps ……

I am very interested in Instructors from the ARNI Institute. I follow them online and have the book and know one person in another county who is very pleased with them. Unfortunately there are no instructors in our area - I check every couple of months.

Hello. I got in touch with the stroke unit at our local hospital and asked if any of the stroke physios were interested in working privately once they had finished their days work at the hospital. I was lucky in that one of the physios who had come with the Community Physios when I left hospital was interested in doing some private work and she comes every 2 weeks and charges £70 per hour. Worth a try

I tried working with an ARNI therapist but I didn’t like their method of working and Iprefer working with a Neuro Physiotherapist. Could be worth a try, you may like the way they work. Worth checking to see if they have anyone in your area.

Hi Sue,

I have had two ARNI physios and both were good, but worked completely different ways. They don’t work to a specific method, so if you have a choice of more than one it’s worth trying again.

If there’s nothing in the links you’re going through then it’s worth having a look at ARNI www.arnico.uk You’ll need to contact them to find out if there’s an instructor near you.

I attended the Clinic on a couple of occasions after the physiotherapist who came to our home went to work there. I would have loved to go there on a regular basis but it’s a nightmare journey from here (Kent). I hope this is helpful.
