About the Eating after stroke category

Our relationship with food can change after a stroke, use this space to talk about your experiences with food, diet and swallowing difficulties.

Before my stroke I used food to satiate mental health issues.I’ve only been eating yoghurt everyday for lunch for two weeks but the elation I feel with each mouthful is bliss and there is a marked improvement in my mental health.I now have something to look forward to which is rare these days.

For those of you transitioning to ‘real’ food after stroke,I’ve had a barium swallow X-ray and I aspirate a little but my cough is strong and I cough up anything that “goes the wrong way”.anyhow I wanted to share a list of food that require minimal chewing in case you like me have lost the power of your jaw muscles: weetabix left to go soggy in milk,go for oat Milk if you like me want to be non-dairy,non-dairy yoghurt, porridge, fish cakes.lots,of soups my personal favourites are:tomato, carrot and ginger, mushroom,

pumpkin, carrot and potato mash.baked potato mac n cheese with over cooked pasta.
