My name is Anna and I’m the Online Community Coordinator. My role is to support and help you as you use this space.
If you have any queries and if it’s something I can’t help you with, I’ll point you in the right direction. Additionally, I help to facilitate the Online Activities, and since starting this position, I have been running some of these sessions. I’ve also been learning all about how the Online Community functions. As I’ve been navigating through, a real highlight for me has been to see the support that you all provide for each other. I’m excited to move forwards into this role further and I’m looking forward to getting to know you all. I’ll be more visible, and you will start to see me engaging with you. I will also be posting some regular, lighthearted content so we can have a chat and connect with each other – keep an eye out for this, I’ll be posting them in them in the ‘Chat to Anna’ category.
A few fun facts about me:
I love ferns
I hate cheese – I know, I know, I’m an odd one! If there are any other cheese haters out there, please drop by and support me!
I’m scared of spiders I once threw my dinner across the room because a very large spider was crawling up my back!
You can read more about the rest of the team and how we moderate on our Meet the Team! 11 page
I’m looking forward to chatting with you all over the coming weeks.
There isn’t really any difference here to the rest of the forum other than I’ll likely be posting some content here that you may or may not want to engage in. This is just a little space within the wider forum for discussions and if you specifically want to chat with me
Hope this helps to clarify and please feel free to post wherever you feel more comfortable.
Hello Anna
My name is Sue and I had my first stroke in April
Since then things have gone well but I fell slightlr dizzy most days with a pressure betweeny eyes and fatigue. I also blacked out once and went to a and a who could find nothing untoward with my blood pressure etc. Doctor stopped my statins but problem persists I have now been given betahistine to try to see if it is an inner ear problem. I feel so frustrated Anna and fightened that I will have another stroke.Would like to ask other members their advice but dont know how. This is my first time on the site Thank you Sue
Welcome to the community, I’m sorry to hear about your stroke.
It’s understandable to be feeling the way you do. You’ll find lots of people here who will be able to offer some tips on how they managed these things. I’m sure some of our members will be along to welcome you and offer some words of advice.
Don’t worry about not knowing how to use the site, everyone here was new once! You may find this article helpful for how to create posts.

Welcome but sorry you’ve had reason to join. We all start scared that it will happen again and that normally receeds to some degree - more thoughts below
Don’t need to worry about how to ask just posting and the community members are generous with their time and expertise
Others will also be along soon I’m sure
You might find info in
There’s lots here - reading via the magnifying glass or just asking and others will signpost stuff
Visits a&E because you think you’re having stroke like symptoms are common- I went a couple of times in the first year and indeed I’ve been this week because I thought I was having a reoccurrence (I’m 4yrs in )
The Anxiety could be with you long-term post stroke anxiety is common. there are multiple ways that you might deal with it. Taking your meds is obviously a good step as is avoiding the major risk factors - have you been given a cause for your stroke? Have common factors like a PFO[1] being ruled out ?
Dizziness is also fairly common but has many possible explanations. The first possibility is neurological, the second vestibular & or ear (in which case there are exercises to reset the crystals in your ear), the third low blood pressure - particularly on postural changes. Side effects from medicines were also another possibility
Why we are statins stopped? If you had high blood pressure and cholesterol outside of the recommended range then statins are pretty standard and have claimed benefits beyond just the cholesterol. They are also the subject of much controversy will find lots of posts here on that
