As it’s World Stroke Day soon - my thoughts.
I intend to continue to support those who have suffered a stroke and come to the forum looking for answers in any way I can. Whether that be through personal experience or maybe signpost them to their GP or another organisation.
We all have so much experience and knowledge to share. What would you have wanted to know. Did you come to the forum looking for advice, I did and received really helpful advice freely given.
I look forward to reading your thoughts.
When i joined the forum I had no idea what to expect or what I was really looking for. Had never used anything like it before.
I stayed quiet for a short while just taking in what it was about. Then i definitely used it for advice & over time that changed to being able to help others as my own journey progressed.
Hi All, , I had no guidance when I was discharged from hospital after 5 months and I had never heard of the Stroke Association or Different strokes and stumbled across this community purely by luck. I was completely lost when I first joined and had no idea what to expect or where this recovery journey was taking me.
I am so pleased that I joined and I visit most days if I’m at home alone and I now enjoy being able to offer advice and support to others as and when I can and I am still learning new things on a regular basis.
Keep up the good work everyone and thank you for being there
The world of the stroke survivor has few signposts, extremely limited (or non existent in my case) medical and psychological support, is a vast expanse of problems needing help and understanding affecting a diverse section of the population.
Without this forum which provided me with a sense of being amongst people who understood and were able to provide practical help through first hand experience I would have been more lost than I was.
For me, finding a community which could provide peer support, and allowing me to feel less alone was so important.
Thank you all. Julia x
