Here’s a half hour clip I just made today on fascia ; it’s a net around our body that keeps tightness, yet gives a certain flexibility. I also explain pandiculation and resetting our muscle Tone. Pandiculation is distinct from simple stretching as it serves a specific neurological function:
- Contract: It involves tightening (contracting) the muscles while they are still in a shortened position.
- Release: Slowly letting go of that contraction.
- Result: This sequence sends strong sensory signals to the brain to reset the “resting tone” of the muscle spindle (the sensor that detects muscle length). Think of it as the body’s way of “waking up” the muscle-brain connection. After sleeping, muscles can feel “stuck” or shortened. Pandiculation recalibrates the system to the correct length.
