Oh yes for sure x
Gaina - I have to say these days there are no songs that get me out of bed. In fact I don’t think there ever have been any songs that got me out of bed, rather the opposite. I used to put the radio on whilst lying in bed and would fall asleep listening to whatever it was that was playing on the radio at the time. I love music and I used to listen to the radio a lot - I’d listen to it as soon as I woke up, listen to it whilst driving to and from work and listen to it at bedtime.
I couldn’t list one or two songs that I love - there are far too many from different genres. Pop, rock, reggae, country, classical, anything really. Music is one of my passions. It moves me, makes me happy, makes me sad, makes me want to dance, sing …
I will take this opportunity to tell you of how I used to wake up to Radio 2 in the days when a certain Mr. Wogan used to host the breakfast show. As I recall, I used to wake up at 8 am - clock alarm and immediately put the radio on and so the news would be on. Then after the news, Mr. Wogan would ramble on and then between 8 and 8:15 he would play a record or two. Well, the story I am telling here is, and it is as I recall, he played Joe Dolce’s “Shadapp you face”.
He played it every day for what it seems like weeks and I am convinced he was the reason this song became #1 hit in the UK charts. It seemed like it was around for ages, though I think it was only 3 weeks at #1, but the most fascinating (for me at least) and shocking fact is, this song with the help of Terry Wogan kept one of the best songs never to reach #1 peaking at and being held there by Joe Dolce’s Shaddap you face was Vienna by Ultravox. And so if I might choose a song it would have to be Shaddap you face by Joe Dolce for having the temerity to keep Vienna by Ultravox off the top spot
I remember listening to Terry Wogan on the school bus. I remember Joe Dolce too! Do you remember a song that goes;
Oh lord, it’s hard to be humble,
When you’re perfect in every way
I can’t wait to look in the mirror,
cos I get better lookin’ each day
To know me is to love me,
I must be a hell of a man!
Oh lord, it’s hard to be humble
but I’m doing the best that I can’.
Apologies if you do remember that one and I’ve now given you an Ear Worm!
Oh yeah I do remember that one. In fact I have been known to sing it when I meet some idiot who tries to belittle me in any way or someone who is just being a pompous windbag. No-one on this site I hasten to add! Thanks for reminding me, Gaina. Norma
The only Joe Dolce one I know is “Shaddap you face”.
Oh my hubby sings that all the time.
@Mrs5K as long is he’s singing it TO you and not AT you, you’re ok.
Wolfie - I think Joe Dolce was a one hit wonder.
The song @Gaina mentions is by Mac Davis - a Country and Western singer and it’s called “It’s hard to be humble”.

This has just been recommended to me by YouTube - I am very grateful for this is a truly fantastic version of this classic!
If you enjoy it half as much I did, it will be worth it.
See THAT’S how it should be sung for me.
This was the first song my guitar teacher taught me to play and she was such a good teacher, I could remember the chord progression in my sleep!
