Think it’s important for all of us to thank those who happen to help and care for us. Unfortunately lost my husband a year before my stroke. My daughter and grandaughter have been amazing but I have a friend who we go shopping together and holidays and she has been an amazing help. Always there with an arm when she knows I’m tiring and encouraging me.don’t know how my husband would have coped with me . Think he would not have had the patience.
He would have got there patience born of love and devotion is part of the marriage contract, my big kids Gus around me and my mother in law is a great second mum loost without them love to all who care you are somuch needed and valued by us survivors
Thank you @mrfrederickson - those words mean a lot
I agree, or a good homemade chutney. If you haven’t tried it with chutney, do give it a go, it’s delicious.
Chutney is a winner as long as I can get it on our next shop it’s sorted.
If only the pain in my left leg would stop or reduce I could improve my walking tenfold.
Using pain killers paracetamol and codine staying ofprogabaline and gaver pentium.
Too addictive and nasty side effects
I dont have actual pain in my legs but they are both a bit swollen and uncomfortably stiff. To make them easier for walking I go to some trouble. Whilst sitting first thing daily on my computer catching up on my Email or working a ‘chat’ program with a stroke forum, I have my feet on a REVITIVE device which gives minor electric zapps through my feet. I also have a pair of matching pressure devices which are strapped round each leg and they give a timed muscle massage. Add to this I massage the calves of both legs daily with a Palmolive lotion.
All this takes time and trouble and I wont try to kid you that afterwards I can jog for a mile of two, but at least it makes my daily walk tolerable without even a walkingstick. If I miss out any of these procedures I am immediately aware of ultra stiff legs when walking so they must work!

Hi I use the revitive medic and it really helps my swollen left foot and overall movement. As a circulation booster it supports all my exercises do not a waste of money.
Using mine now worth every penny
I wasnt sure on how much value it was but lent it to a neighbour with leg problems and she was overjoyed with the result which allowed her to feel the carpet under her feet, something she hadn’t been able to do for years. We had to dash out to the shops to buy her one so that the improvment would continue.

Shwmae @Deigh, yes indeed, electrical stimulation does get things moving. Our bodies use electricity in this way.
The sensation throughout my poor painful left foot and leg is great I took this path as opposed to the water retention tablets prescribed by my GP as an attempt to reduce the swollen foot and ankle, great result. Over all improves my legs while I am less mobile
Well done great news, keep going. I started off with a Zimmer frame then progressed to a stick, now I walk independently when out and about with friends and family but take a stick when out on my own.
ThanksDottie, great news how far down the recovery road are you?
Hi I had my stroke in August 2020 which left me with a left sided weakness and a subluxation of my left shoulder. It took me 6 weeks before I took my first few steps with help of 2 members of staff. I left hospital at the end of October walking a very short distance with a Zimmer frame.
I had physio at home and some OT and paid privately for physio when my NHS physio stopped I still pay for physio which I do fortnightly.
I walk now with a carbon fibre splint on my left leg which has been great help with my foot drop., I am now back driving.
It has taken me 18 months to get where I now
I must say I still have the odd day when I get exhausted so I have a chill out for a day and some days have the odd nape and feel somuch better for it.
So take things slowly listen to what your body is telling you will get there with positive thinking and determination. Take care and let us know how thing are going with you.
Hi Dottie great to here how you have healed and recovery is going. I would like to get back to driving but need my vision testing, plus the left arm is still useless, here is hoping.
Mark.just had my weekly session at the gym physio has dropped off o am following the exercises set and using electrical stimulation.
My stroke was seven years ago and I had until recently recovered enough to walk about 2k daily. Suddenly over the last two months my health got a big knock back and I had to even abandon my daily floor exercises. Now I am on the path to recovery again and have had to work hard to catch up with my general health. The 2K walk has diminished to 1.5K and includes a couple of sit downs on public seating. The floor exercises I started again this morning but even cut that down to half effort.
I’m now exhausted already!

I am being lectured by all around me about taking recovery easy, I’m a ‘dive in the deep end’ type and think I’d better start listening to them!

Glad to hear you are on the mend excellent recovery from the stroke awesome achievement,
Your positive attitude and persistent approach have been key to your exceptional results
I have a similar approach to you and have had to back off fractional ly so I could let the brain heal, still go at it too hard but my people are there to temper any over enthusiasm.
