Walking technique and movement
I’ve been comparing my walking capabilities and fluidity of movement.
My observations are I walked further and more and my movements were better ,could I be going backwards, still peddling 6 kms a day. But walking is more like throwing a plank of wood forward than knee thigh movement.
Sometimes we do appear to be going backwards but it might depend on when you’re comparing too. Sometimes we get into bad habits too and we need to refocus & work on resetting the habits.
You’re still doing well. Keep going.
Yes in the outside perspective it all looks good but I feel less stable and still cannot lift my left leg at the knee, weak hamstrings I’m guessing , but taking steps to improve.
I’m puttinlarge amounts of rehab and physio in and not seeing a step change just the brain stimulation ll not functioning as before and not fully required yet, maybe four years is not long enough.
No one is going to tel me that the people who I meet at my stroke group who have regained their walking and arm movements after 6 to 10 years suddenly become more able!!
Not fruitless
So much of my daily workouts are repetitive and may seem pointless but one day it will come together
Anyway my day was made today with a negative result for prostate cancer which is good
However I noted on my NHS record that I am deemed frail which while I understand still hurts as a 6ft male who looks anything but frail unless you see me walk like an 80 year old man.
One more reason to recover faster.
Congratulations on the negative result
Sometimes it feels like we aren’t making progress despite us putting in a lot of effort however it often takes a while for us to notice the progress because it is happening in such small amounts. I’m sure you’ll keep putting in lots of effort and I really hope eventually that effort pays off for you.
Really pleased to hear that you’ve tested negative for prostate cancer that’s great news for you.
Cold @mrfrederickson, your muscle instinctively tense up more against the cold. Hence mobility is a little stiffer. Come summer you’ll be walking better again.
Another reason for poorer walking ability can be due to being less active in the winter as well as the lack of sunshine.
Once a month I take a week off from working out. Usually after a couple days my stroke leg does seem to drag a little. But also, we are not getting any younger
Lorraine
Stroke improvement Group
You are too kind Lorraine, I’m just a frail old man who is not recovering enough to meet the onset of old age at a pace to beat the rapid aging process. Bless you. After 4 years I’m not sufficiently recovered from the stroke to walk fluidly as before it does seem that either I’m stuck in this state until my death or it takes so much longer to recover that I’m no where near any viable life.
Mark
Mark,
Will we ever get there ? Who cares as long as we enjoy the journey ! Have you tried a grounding mat? It really helps eliminate inflammation.
