Hello Cathie - I am so sorry you had a stroke a day after having been discharged following a TIA. This is such bad luck - I think that is all I can say as we can never know what is going to happen next.

The good news is you seem to have recovered well from your stroke but of course it is early days and you should try to remain relaxed and keep an eye on things.

I am not familiar with the cartotid artery surgery and so can’t offer any advice. I understand this might be frightening for you but I think the fact you have been offered it, would suggest it is something that will help you and if there were any concerns, the consultant/surgeon would have discussed these with you. For that reason, I would think this is likely a fairly standard/routine operation and you will be fine.

I expect there may be members who may have first hand knowledge/experience of this and I am sure they will be along soon to give you some reassurance

It’s nice to meet you and I wish you all the best.

Hello Cathie,

Be brave - time is of the essence and you have much to be gained by acting quickly and getting the surgery done - It will be a huge weight lifted once over, and that will go much faster than you expect. Good luck, and remember there’s every reason to be positive at this stage. Ciao, R

Hi @catbirds & welcome to the community. I had a stroke caused by a dissected carotid artery & it was just left to heal. I suspect yours is to clear a blockage / part blockage. Any surgery is frightening and worrying but I would take if as a positive step as this should reduce the chances of another stroke. Surgeons will go through all the benefits/ risks with you, if they haven’t already. They will only so the op if they consider the benefits outweigh any risks.

Write down any questions you have so you can ask them of the team. If you are cery worried see if you can speak to your GP who can go through it all with you.

Good luck.

Ann
