Value for Money / Private vs NHS

NOTE:

This is nothing to do with stroke but just a bit of a light-hearted post on the absurdity in the world on how people are rewarded for doing their job.

This is just something to think about.

I was party to discussion on physiotherapists in which the subject of Private vs NHS came up or as I like to think about it Value for Money.

We all have views on this, but I often wonder what the truth/reality is behind

  • Private is better because you pay for it
  • You get what you pay for
  • etc. etc.

In the example, we compared costs of NHS vs Private (Guesstimates)
NHS PT ÂŁ15/hr vs Private PT ÂŁ120/hr

The real reason for me to create this post is not the above, but what I simply cannot get my head around and that is the rewards/remunerations in some professions.

Professional footballers - In the Premier League, highest earner is earning > ÂŁ500K a week, many earning > ÂŁ100K a week
Other sports, boxers, tennis players etc. earn huge amounts in prize money.

What is value for money?
How is the ÂŁ500K a week salary justified?

As an aside, the team that employs that player lost in a Champions League game to a team of “Minnows” from Norway.

As a gesture to 300 travelling fans who witnessed this and had the privilege to pay for it, a number of players (including the one earning the ÂŁ500K) have told the media they will refund the ÂŁ25 match ticket!!!

Digest that if you will.

Anything is worth what one wants to ask and another is willing to pay. It’s not what someone does that we pay for, it’s the fact they know how to.

I would like to have a market stall where I could charge a penny for my thoughts. Do you think this idea would be a winner on Dragons’ Den?
