Useful Tips and Tricks for Formatting/Enhancing Posts

For those of you who like to share creative work, you may find this post (below link) from one of our regular contributors helpful.

It looks as though I missed it first time round but it just papped up on my radar just now and I thought I’d share it. Also, some of the newer members may not see the original that easily (I didn’t).

Thank you @Bobbi

Thanks for re incarnating that thread. There’s a lot of material there, isn’t there?

I hope it provides a spring board for others.

I feel that creative work is great therapy for dealing with the effects of stroke.

Never mind what you can’t do. There is a huge list of possibility.

Check it out and tackle something you can do.

You will please others and yourself at the same time.

This is the road to improvement.

I’m quite interested n using the cardboard from the boxes that medication comes in as a small sculpture medium.

I might have a go at that.

I found it to be an excellent post and I must have missed it first time, though you have shared some of the tips with me either on a one-to-one or on other post, but collectively I feel it is a good quick reference point for anyone interested on jazzing up their posts.

Wrt to sculpting from medicine boxes, I am sure you will come up with something and I shall look forward to seeing the results as and when you get time with all your other commitments and activities  I still think you should do a “walking in the rain” ride video

I found this Angel Above Me foot tapper very interesting and I did some research as I did not recognise it. It turns out this is a remix of some sort and the original is by an artist called Stick Figure. Further, Stick Figure is an American band and their style is reggae. I love reggae music and so listened to the original and found it very pleasant. I am now listening to more by this artist.

Thank you Lorraine for introducing us to this wonderful artist.

At the same time, I was also presented with this wonderful version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole

As an aside to @Anna_Moderator,

It could be useful to have a post pinned at the top of the page, not just outlining what is not allowed but also showing what can be done, ways of presenting material, using links, applying formatting to the text, displaying pictures, photos and so on. Also stating who is allowed to do what.

My posts, although useful, disappear off the bottom of the page. An ‘Official Post’ permanently displayed and pinned at the top, explaining how to do all this and telling who can do what, would be most useful.

There is almost a level of secrecy about it that is unnecessary. It is far better to be open and give proper explanations and instructions.

There are actually instructions for this, and they can be found in the drop down menu (hamburger symbol) at the top of the screen and select:

Help with this site

You should find it under How to use the Online Community. I did read through it a year or two ago. But its very much clicking in and out of pages and thats hard to keep track of with a stroke brain. I can’t remember if it covers things like picture layout, I think it does. But it’s a matter of figuring out where it is/what it could be under.

As someone with Aphasia, I have helped the SA in the past with trying to improve it and it’s accessibility, but it still could do with improvement. It’s still not in an obvious enough place. But I also know some things were limiting due to the nature of the platform used for this site. They just weren’t possible to do.

Thanks @EmeraldEyes I thought there must be a source of info somewhere.

Having checked it out I’ve reached the conclusion that asking a question in a simple and straight forward manner by posting in the forum is probably more likely to result in a more easily accessible answer than searching on the website.

An easily accessible set of relevant answers is perhaps not quite as simple to present as I had imagined.

If you want to find out about stroke, the forum or whatever, it’s probably best to ask others in a similar situation. At least, if you don’t get the answer you seek you will be understood.

I’ll continue posting oddments of what I consider useful info every now and then.

I remember asking if there was a user guide a while back and indeed there is help available. In fact I have a feeling Anna @Mrs5K may be responsible for some of the handiwork

As well as posting a question here, you can also contact the HelpDesk via e-mail and I have done that a few times. They usually get back to you within five working days or something like that.

Having said that, I rather think most people are just happy to type a few lines on here and that, more often than not serves the purpose. There are a few who like to do chapter and verse and like to add bells and whistles, but it is a personal choice.

Hey ho!

Away we go!
