Two Doctors two diagnoses

When I first went into hospital once I had my head scanned I was told I had a mini stroke also a blood clot in my brain, two or three days later another Dr came to see me in the ward and told me yes I had a mini stroke but the blood clot not so sure about. That was his words this has been bothering me a lot if I have a blood clot or not. Has anyone had a similar experience it’s just being unsure is bothering me just not sure what to do now if anything. Looking forward to any responses if you have experienced similar.

Thanks for reading :sunflower::heart:

@Scotia - Hares what AI (Artificial Intelligence via Google) has to say …

A mini-stroke, or Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA), is caused by a temporary blockage of blood flow to part of the brain, usually by a blood clot or fatty deposit. Unlike a stroke, this obstruction is temporary and breaks apart or dissolves on its own, with symptoms typically resolving within 24 hours.

Does this help?

It may be the first doctor said you had a mini stroke caused by a blood clot in the brain. Mini stroke or TIA is temporary because the obstruction (blood clot) breaks apart or dissolves on its own and so would not then appear on the scan.

I think TIAs are commonly caused by clots rather than bleeds, although both can cause a TIA, haemorrhages are rarer than ischaemia in the stroke world, as I am to understand, but I can see why it would bother you because of the choice of post TIA medication you might have been put on, if any. You wouldn’t want to be taking anticoagulants if you had a TIA caused by a small bleed.

Hi Scotia, not sure if relevant but two consultants 48 hours apart first said no issues, two days later sir sorry you had a stroke. Bad enough I suppose but survived and got off lightly but several months later a wee relapse and in another hospital and given on day one and very first consultant said nope you’re good go home. So the consultant in second hospital - out of area asked why no clot buster it would have saved almost all of this.

As I’m not a consultant said I don’t know but often think what if, that being said my experience has made me a better person so don’t ever dwell anymore.

It’s likely the mini stroke was caused by a temporary blood clot which cleared itself. Maybe that’s the cause of the confusion. Do follow it up with your GP or consultant though as none of us are medically trained.

No harm in checking and in fact absolutely the right thing to do.
If in doubt, check it out.
Nothing is guaranteed, but don’t leave things to chance if at all you can help it :slight_smile:
