Hi Everyone, I just thought I’d tell you. A year and a day since I came out of hospital after my second stroke I ventured upstairs to use the toilet. I’ve always used a urine bottle or a downstairs commode. However, yesterday I used the stairlift fitted 5 months ago to go upstairs and use the toilet. We have been waiting for a quote to reverse the toilet door so it opens out, but nothing has been forthcoming. So my wife helped my through the door on sticks and sat me down on a raised toilet seat and seating frame. So for the first time in 367 days I used a toilet! Never give up.
Thanks Simon. Yes the door can come off, but it’s the only way of affording some protection. If you know what I mean!
Time for a celebration…congratulations
Progress waits for no man, where there’s a will there’s a way. And your brain wants progress so it won’t sit around waiting on a handyman to come reverse a door.
It’s also a bit of a rehabilitation exercise in problem solving.
Have you tried https://www.trustatrader.com/ to get a few more quotes if the others aren’t forthcoming. Their loss is someone else’s gain.
Well done @PhilipS on this achievement, great to hear how you’re progressing.
Anna
Hi Emerald eyes. Thanks for the understanding words. Trust a trader just throw up companies from 60 - 80 miles away!
Hi Anna, thanks for the words of encouragement.
Hi, well done you
Always pleased to hear about achievements.
Keep up the good work.
Regards Sue
Thanks Sue. I’ll try again today.
@PhilipS great achievement. Well done. There will be no stopping you now.
Thanks Mrs5K all I’ve got to do is do something!
When I came home from the hospital, my husband had removed the bathroom door and widened the entry so I could use whatever device I might need, be it walker or cane. Have you thought about asking someone to remove the door and replace it with a shower rod and a curtain panel so you are more independent?
Have you tried citizens advice for a handyman to do a fairly simple job. My son did mine for me but I have found citizens advice very useful.
Hi Janet1 I have used CAB to help me with PIP at a tribunal, but not for a handyman list! For starters we wanted a joiner for the bathroom door so we approached qualified joiners. Secondly the situation has changed at our Grimsby branch of CAB. You can’t speak to anyone directly, you have to make an appointment to speak. So we just left them alone! It sounds like your son had a little more success. What sort of jobs has your son had done?
To be fair he is a plasterer and dry liner but has built 2 homes for himself so is pretty capable!! Thank goodness
