when I get tired the left side of my face and mouth still drops and my speech is slurred he said this is not consistent with the type of stoke i have had.

@wattsy I hope you donât have to wait long for the scans etc so that you can find out for sure what is going on. Iâm sure youâre a bit unsettled after your GP appointment but try not to worry too much (easy for me to say).

Iâm very curious as to what conclusion the docâs going to draw from this investigation. Heâs either going to find it was a misdiagnoses or that maybe he needs to gen up on his knowledge of strokes and their aftereffectâs perhaps. But you are getting a more thorough investigation into your stroke which canât hurt.
Recovery is slower as we get older, WE are slower as we get older, itâs just that for some of us it comes on a little more suddenly than for others. Itâs like fate suddenly decides your far too fit and healthy for your age, I know, lets just strike you down with a stroke, thatâll slow you down. And suddenly you are on first name terms with all the staff in your surgery and know each others life history

maybe not much other than how important it is in the first instance to give a CT scan and an MRI SCAN if this had been done it is likely that the misdiagnosis would have been picked up much earlier. point is if i had not phoned the stroke clinic and pushed for a follow up i would still be none the wiser what is being done now should have been carried out in early february, it might help people that follow if he learns to be a more thorough although my mate google tells me that there are some 15,000 misdiagnosis each year, so maybe it is more difficult than we think.
the steriods i been taking seem to have had some effect, so am fairly certain there is something
im my brain that needs attention, question is what and where and is it treatable?

I whole heartedly agree with you there Phil. And you arenât the first on here either who has been misdiagnosed initially.
I remember looking at my mother-in-laws scans for lung cancer and remember thinking how can they tell what spot is different from all the other spots on the pic, I certainly couldnât tell the difference, and thatâs with it being pointed out. So I can only imagine it takes some magnification and a good eye for detail to spot the differencesâŚalong with biopsies to test on in those instances.
So I dare say with something like strokes it more common than we think to misdiagnose because of where theyâre looking. Itâs probably more common in small strokes/TIAâs as the symptoms can mimic so many other conditions. I did have further investigation 6/8 months after my TIAâs because of head pain and hearing loss, and the results still came to the same conclusion!
This article was only published in May 2023 as theyâre coming to realise that there can be lasting impairments to TIAâs and mini strokes and more research is needed. And then thereâs going to an awful lot of rewriting to do on the internet as well as re-education

So it could still be that your doctor is still just delusional about TIA/mini stroke recovery. So donât go borrowing trouble until all the results are in

Thank you so much for taking the time to get all this information together, I have read it all off the link, all very interesting. Iâm now in what is call a virtual stroke clinic you get a designated nurse who rings twice a day for blood pressure readings and any issues you might have, you are right when you say how the doctor could tell if the scar was anything other than the stroke scar with the naked eye. perhaps he just panicked when he thought it might be, and decided to cover his backside hence the epilepsy drugs.

Hi Quick update, got another ct scan tomorrow followed immediately by mri with dye, it is all happening at once, hoping for results the day after regardless, at least then we will all know what we are dealing with.

Hi all,
Had all scans yesterday, and had call back from doctor this afternoon, all good there is no brain tumor in the head or vital organs. They did find a huge amount of infection and inflammation, in my brain, the prescribed steroids have had a mega effect in clearing this up so far, taste improved now able to eat bigger meals, energy levels much improved.
as previously mentioned this begs the question, about levels of care at time of the stroke, if I had had the ct scan, the mri scan, the doppler check, the 24 hour ecg, right at the start, one after the other, not weeks apart, none of this panic and stress would have happened, all the information needed would have been available then and there, also the infection and inflammation issue could have been anticipated, checked and dealt with, much improvement is required, will be mentioning this to the stroke clinic before they sign me off.

Been in the sun for couple of hours drinking non alcoholic beer lovely chewing the fat with a mate, I am going to write to the hospital management not formal complaint as such but their after stroke practices have to change understand how they can mistake one for the other, but at very least confirm the ct scan result with the mri then there can be no mistake job done dot to be standard practice.

Wonders never cease, had a call this morning form stroke clinic asking to attend a meeting with chief honcho on Thursday, clearly a discharge meeting , but will finally give me and my wife the chance to ask the questions we have and comment on level and timing of the care and treatment received over the last 3 months, determined to keep it at non personal level, but would like to point out that procedures need to be improved. Will be interesting I think

Brilliant idea Phil, make sure youâve got all significant questions written down just in case your brain lets you down on the dayâŚthey can be so unreliable after a stroke

Update just had phone call my MRI scans are being sent to Addenbrooks hospital in cambridge in view of symptoms following the stroke for final check in view of the symptoms I have had since the stroke if that is what is was, so Thursday not a discharge meeting at all.
Everything now back on the table, I just want this to be over one way or the other.

So basically they are getting a second opinion and that is good, they are not just writing you off! Unfortunately that is just the way it can go for brain traumas and cancers etc, yours is raising doubt because its not conclusive one way or another, not ticking enough boxes for any given prognosis perhaps.
In the meantime its tiring, tedious and frustrating for you. But its not putting your life on hold is it?
Youâll find out more on Thursday, in the meantime get your questions written down. And then find things to distract your mind from dwelling because there is nothing you can do anyway apart from drive yourself stir crazy.
