Tired

Went to hairdresser Sat she asked why I was wearing a tracksuit where was my lipstick & mascara? Truth its too tiring to attempt this. I came out of hospital 18th March after stroke & was back again 30th March having pacemaker fitted. This last week my hubby & I have had awful colds with a cough going from dry tickly to persistent congestion. Everyone seems to think my right hand side weakened by stroke should be back to normal! Im doing exercises by way to make it stronger. Having a sleep still feels like giving in!

Sleeping isn’t giving in; it’s healing. Your body is repairing a brain injury, regulating a new pacemaker, fighting a virus, and managing fatigue.. be kind to yourself.. please!!

Having a sleep is absolutely not giving in!

Most people, either stroke survivors or not do not get enough sleep, yet it is one of the most important factors to a good healthy life.

As a stroke survivor you might likely need more sleep and so you should sleep as much as you can - it’s not giving in, it’s responding to your body and your brain which are asking you to help then to recover.

Listen to your body and take as much sleep as you need - you will be glad you did

Like others have said. Body saying let me rest and sleep. I asked my Dr about giving me something to help me stay awake more. Answer yes he could but he’s not. When you need to rest or sleep. Then that’s what you need to do. It’s the body saying it needs rest and sleep.

Well done on getting to the hairdresser. That’s a big achievement early on in your recovery. As for what you were wearing - it doesn’t matter as like you say getting dressed / changed at such an early stage of recovery is exhausting.

Something like a cold can feel much worse after a stroke too.

As others have said resting is not giving in it is allowing your brain the time it needs to heal. Not resting will make you feel so much worse & could be counterproductive.

And those who think you should be back to normal now clearly know nothing about a stroke. Just ignore their comments you can only do what you can.

Best wishes
