Tips for leg stiffness/cramps?

Hi all!

I was wondering what tips everyone has for dealing with leg stiffness and pain. I am a relative of someone who suffered a stroke earlier this year. They received physiotherapy for a month after the stroke and from then onwards had several exercises and sensory activities which they have been following.

They are still dealing with uncomfortable levels of pain in one of their legs that flashes up from time to time, does anyone who has dealt with the same thing have tips for us on how to mitigate or lessen the frequency of the stiffness? Thank you in advance!

Good question,

I suffer from terrible leg pains, spasms, cramps, paraesthesia, inflamed nerves, contracture and more. I work most days on it and follow Arjan Kuipers on https://www.brain.rehab/ but there’s not much on pain / leg stiffness. Do you have any idea what might be going on ?

It would help to know age, how long ago was the stroke, how are other parts doing? What capability have the legs?

Good luck, Roland

@MxDT Depending on what is causing the cramps tonic water might help. My dad used to suffer with his arms & was advised to try tonic water. It seemed to help him a bit. Worth a try perhaps.

Good point, Ann

I have tonic water every other evening. It’s not supposed to be enough quinine to make a difference, but it helps me. It triggers “end of the day” mode, when my brain winds down from beta mode to alpha mode, and that’s when my spasms and cramps start to ease off.

Good luck, Roland

Thanks for the advice! My relative values their privacy so I can’t give much more details, but we shall try the tonic water.

Hi,

has there been any significant improvement with what you have tried so far? The issue of leg pain and cramp is a very debilitating one.

My initial thought was regarding the taking of statins, which caused terrible pain and cramp for me. However I would suspect that this would be unlikely to be restricted to one leg only.

After a lengthy journey, I can now say that the leg pain and cramp from statins is gone. There is a solution, if that turns out to be the issue.

Kindest regards and richest blessings
