Three years ago and affected by stroke

My wife and I had some good advice back then from a friend.

It all feels as relevant today as it did three years ago.

I’d like to share it. So here is a link.

There is some fantastic advice in there & i’m sure it helped loads in those early days when things are tough on everyone. I think we probably all needee to see / be told something like that following our strokes.

You have come a long way in that 3 years even if it wasn’t as quick as you’d have wanted. Slowly different parts of your life are coming back together & as I’ve followed your journey from almost the beginning it is really heartening to see.

Here’s to more adventures in 2025.

Best wishes to you & Hilary.

Great post Bobbi and thank you for sharing. I think we all need to be reminded of some of the points raised and I am sure this will be very helpful to people joining this community in the early days of their recovery.

Regards and best wishes to both you and Hilary  . Happy Sunday

Keep on keeping on :+1:

Thank you, @Bobbi. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog thus far and your style of writing encourages the reader to keep reading. You’ve come a long way and having the freedom to drive again in your ‘boy racer’ Corsa is a huge gain for both you and Hilary.

Yes, stroke can be devastating and reading of your struggles make my complaints pale into insignificance, although I know it’s all relative, of course. We just have to keep on keeping’ on, as you say.

Please keep writing. It’s helping others.

This one should be pinned to be sure new members can read it. I always hate seeing good posts disappear into the ethers :frowning:

I have one of those grabber sticks mentioned in your blog. I remember cruising my way into the kitchen one day to get something. Whatever it was, I managed to drop it. I rembember just standing there looking down at it. I knew if i managed to get down there I’d never get back up. And just thinking through how I would get it back up was exhausting enough that I abandoned it and went back to sit down and recover:sweat_smile: And there was one of those grabbing sticks not 3 feet away from me at the time

I think my hubby was the one who found whatever I dropped but I was asleep on the couch :face_with_hand_over_mouth: And my family take great pleasure in reminding of all those little mishaps :innocent:

There’s plenty more here if you are looking for something to read.
It shouldn’t disappear, I have no plans to let any of my stuff go.
I realise it has value and that is why I share it.

Thanks for the encouraging remarks. They also are valuable.
We all need that sometimes, don’t we?

Incidentally I also host occasional informal video sessions.
I will be posting about them soon.

Hey Bobbi and all responders - I think it is definitely relevant today as it was three years ago when you were affected by the stroke.

I think it’s great that everyone here is so willing to share their experiences and offer support.

I like the fact that you decided to “pin” this here by effectively re-posting it. It’s true the information is there, but it isn’t always easy to find (or maybe it’s just me who struggles).

Thanks everyone for your generosity.

P.S. What is this Medium thing? Do we have access to it, or does it require some sort of member ship?

I’ve read all your blogs Bobbi and they are all inspiring, including the funny bits  When’s the book coming out
I meant having it pinned to the top of the forum or some form of ease of access to them particularly for new members coming on here. But then if we could pin all such posts we might scroll on endlessly 'til we get to rest of the posts

Onwards and upwards Bobbi

@ManjiB @EmeraldEyes and anyone else who is wondering.

About Medium.

If you click the blue link in the Medium box it will take you to an area outside of the Stroke Association web site where you can read some of the articles I have written. I’ve called it “Bobbi’s :Blog”. It is free to view, you don’t need to sign up or join but you can if you’d like to show support.

As someone who had a stroke I think that by sharing our experiences, our sense of humour, we can make this a less lonely affair and more of a cooperative adventure. We can learn from one another, exchange ideas and so find a direction.

I have lost much, but much remains. I will go forward giving it the best I am able.

The value of this forum is the way it allows us all to participate. Both writing and reading are what makes it what it is. I have found the others here to be kind, open, supportive, informative and amusing. Long may it all continue.

A short explanation.
Originally @Alex_Moderator, a helpful member of the Stroke Association staff, invited me to write some posts in the Blog area of this website. I really enjoyed the experience and am thankful to her for that opportunity. I decided to continue writing in this way and so opened an account at Medium which hosts Blogs, articles and this sort of thing.
