Hi Folk
Decided to turn off the modern world for a few days.No laptop or mobile etc, Even the tv was turned off.
I find reading and getting Immersed in a story great therapy .
I reread THE RATS trilogy by James Herbert.
Really good scary read, The imagination runs wild 
Any younger members not read these books they are well worth a look. First book was published in 1974 but still doesnt feel dated.
Starting on THE STAND by steven king next, Another re-read but one of my favorite horror genre books.
Favoritte horror book is THE EXORCIST by William Peter Blatty.That book will play with your mind. The film will make you hide under the covers when in bed at night.

I’ve read all of James Herbert’s books, all excellent reads. The Fog was my favourite. Best author out there.

I like Herbert, Koontze and King. Herbert is my favorite though.

I remember the film with Jamie Lee Curtis, but it was a bit different to the book.

yes films tend to be a let down.We each read and build up a individual perspective of a story. The film comes out and budget restrictions and script alterations etc and before you know it the film as very little to do with the story in the book.
The Exorcist film was mainly about special effects and so on. The book was about the verbal Battle between Regan and the priests.

Others was a film as well with Nicole Kidman, that wasn’t too bad.

I remember seeing The Fog as a movie many years ago. Quite a story. I had no idea who the author was. Thanks for sharing.
I can write, used to read, but have found it a challenge since stroke.
I used to enjoy works like Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake and then, more recently, struggled through stuff from his wife Maeve who continued the novels after his sad passing.

Peake had quite an imagination and was very able at setting a scene and telling a story.
Unfortunately for his audience he died before his work reached a satisfactory conclusion.
His wife was involved in the work and continued the story some time after his death.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, the snooker player, has written some thriller/suspense books, and they were really good. Well worth a read. Framed, The Break and Double Kiss (not snooker related).

Speaking of rats, after stroke, I re-read all of Harry Harrison’s Stainless Steel Rat books. Thoroughly enjoyed returning to the series and was reminded why I liked them so much in the first place.

The Gormenghast Trilogy, retains its spot as my favourite all time series. Peake was a master of visual literature.
