Hi Congratulations on your amazing inspirational achievement, well done you! Lovely seaside location too, very beautiful. I can’t walk yet but I have recently registered for ParkRun as they have a scenic 5 km route around a local reservoir and up a hill. So this is my 2025 new year resolution sorted. I am hoping to be able to walk the route as running is impossible to imagine. It is all a bit cloud cuckoo land anyway as I can’t walk at all at the Mo. My achievement is just going from a sitting position to a standing position, I understand that to walk I need to achieve mastery of shifting my weight on to both legs equally, especially on to my weak left side. So that I can stand supported on my left leg as my good right leg is doing most of the work at the moment. Well done for achieving your goal!
Very best wishes and thanks for telling us about your brilliant achievement
Kindest regards
Carol
That’s a great goal to have and you sound determined enough to achieve it.
As Simon has mentioned sit to stands areca good place to start. I remember many a frustrating hour trying to get up from a chair. Who knew it could be so difficult.
Look forward to hearing how you progress along the route towards your park run (walk).
Best wishes
Ann
Thank you Carol,
When I arrived home almost 2 years ago I also couldn’t walk by a long margin… I used a Zimmer frame. I often forget how far I’ve come (oh yes, a mile exactly) and every step I took reflected hours of CORE exercises and sit-to-stand exercises, and treadmill. I walked for the better part of the year with a stick (still do mostly), unable to feel anything on or around my affected leg, then in May this year, my nerves started making a comeback. That was both more complicated (more things to control, instead of swinging an inert wooden leg) but offered much more promising results. It’s a rough ride, at times, but if I’ve come this far, surely I can go further?!
Good luck, ciao, Roland

Well done Roland. Wet sand is a good tip…i need to get someone to get me onto the beach more!
Thanks, When I say wet I mean compacted and flat… damp but not actually wet.
How i understood it. I have found that the best, if not only, sand to walk on
