Yesterday my husband/carer took me for a wheelchair spin along the lime avenue path by the castle moat. There are always wildfowl, but that day were two swans, one either side of the footpath, with their three cygnets tucked up in the long grass on the moat bank. We would have to pass between the two adults. As we drew level, each stood up very tall and hissssed at us. A person in a wheelchair is at eye level with a hissing swan! Lucily they settled back down after we’d gone by.

I hope you had a lovely time, swanning about. The protective parenting of swans, they do a good job. I used to keep geese, magnificent birds, and one little tip for anyone encountering a cranky goose, if they come up and start hissing, if you can stick your foot out at them, they will harmlessly take pecks at your shoe.

Hope you had a lovely day out. Swans are very protective and can get vicious a bit like geese as Rups says. But sounds like all went amouthly for you. My mother in law had 2 geese who were better that guard dogs.

Rode the same path yesterday. Swan family was not on the footpath but in the moat. That should keep the Normans away!
