Surviving Subarachnoid Haemorrhage and Ischemic stroke

Hello all, I hope you are having the best day possible. As a new member I thought I should introduce myself.

I am a 10 year Subarachnoid Haemorrhage and double Ischemic Stroke survivor, February 2016. I also have a sensory C6 incomplete spinal cord injury caused by a fall due to a Duodenal ulcer from the amount of medication I was given to keep me alive and for the rest of my life.

A malfunctioning brain and a bonkers spinal cord, surely someone was having a laugh?

I was diagnosed amongst many things, expressive dysphasia, visuospatial dysfunction, dysphagia, frontal lobe damage and a form of tourettes. Reading, writing, spelling and counting were all gone. I couldn’t stand and walk correctly, goodness only knows where I was heading for when I started walking half the time.

I would go blind in one eye or both randomly. My bleed was at the base of the skull where the optic canal enters. I think whoever created us was having a laugh putting our ability to see in such a ridiculous and fragile place?

In 2016 I was told I was the only communicating Subarachnoid and Ischemic Stroke survivor in Scotland and possibly even the UK. I hope with all my heart that this is not true today as I could only use a maximum of 4 words at the time. I was asked if I would be open to being studied at Edinburgh University in 2017, unfortunately I became so unwell that my Rehab consultant pulled me from participating.

My ability to communicate is not unique but is extremely rare. I only learnt this by allowing a Neuropsychiatrist into an appointment where my Neuro rehab consultant had to explain how I was communicating. I see in pictures and colours, the rest…..

I finished nearly 9 years of rehabilitation last year. I hope I can be a valuable addition to the group.

I live a full and rewarding life and I am honest with a gentle nature unless the fatigue kicks in. I forgot the fatigue!!

Hello JibBob - Nice to meet you and welcome!

I have no doubt you will be an extremely valuable addition to this group. Having read your introductory post, I feel you will be able to contribute much to this forum.

I loved reading your post so much and then you delivered the killer blow :frowning:

Don’t worry, I jest as purely by coincidence I just posted something on fatigue literally a few minutes before seeing your post.

Maybe you will help us find a solution to this fatigue issue that plagues so many.

Looking forward to your contributions

Namaste|

Hi JimBob65,

I too have only just posted regarding post stroke fatigue. I am thankful that my stroke was comparatively mild, but the fatigue is the issue I find difficult to manage and this frustrates. But in time I’m sure I’ll get better at the management of it. :crossed_fingers:

I found your post quite inspirational , so thanks!

Cheers, Alyn.

Rest when your body tells you, don’t fight it. It’s part of the brain healing process
