Stroke Zine. Holiday opportunities

It’s that time of year when holidays are on our mind. Now because of ‘certain limitations’ our holidays have been on the back burner. However, we have recently celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary and were at a bit of a loss to think of something. For our 50th anniversary we decided to staycation, instead of spending a huge amount of money on something pre-organised. Living in the beautiful county of Yorkshire gave us lots of options and so we arranged shorter breaks and a bit of ‘indulgence’. We did many different things: day trip on a canal boat; journeys on heritage trains, visits to many historic homes, several village events (scarecrow festival, treasure hunts, etc) We visited the National Aboretum, Bempton cliffs, Stratford on Avon, Lindisfarne, I could go on and on. We celebrated for the whole anniversary year with a trip each month. W did a rough calculation that the whole thing was less than a planned break with flights hotels and so on. Our sixtieth anniversary last year was a bit muted, but we did get the card from His Maj. This year… well we haven’t even thought of it yet? Any ideas?
Best wishes Norma

It sounds like you need to do something special as it is your 60th anniversary. There are so many choices out there it is so difficult to pick.

There are companies that do adapted holidays. Or if you like hoing abroad there are places that I am sure will meet your needs. I recently went to Fuerteventura and it was ideal with my mobility issues. I love Cala Bona / Cala Millor in Majorca too. I left a piece of my heart in Cala Bona. It is also ideal for people who have difficulty getting around.

So many choices.

Congratulations on your 60th Wedding anniversary. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but have you thought of a cruise ? Some of the cruise lines have accessible cabins and have made it easier to get around the boat. Something I’ve always liked the idea of is taking a train journey on a luxury train.
I hope you think of something lovely to celebrate your milestone anniversary.

Best wishes and regards

Thanks for the congratulation Sue. And to think the mother in law gave us six months! (Actually we have been married 61 years this year). The idea of a cruise fills us with I’m afraid. We have friends who have waxed luxurious about the joys of cruising, but not for us I’m afraid. Your suggestion of luxury train travel is something that I’d love, but… shall we say that my significant other is not? A week in Wherever is looming on the horizon. Has anyone got a spare bedroom, garden shed or an attic to rent? Or it might just be an ice cream on Blackpool prom. Best wishes Norma
