This is why FAST needs updated
Up to 60% of cerebellar stroke patients are misdiagnosed because the symptoms presented don’t reflect FAST. I was one of those sixty percent.
I didn’t initially have FAST symotoms. They arrived 4 days later. I did have issues typing words though. I remember typing a simple email to my boss to say I was taking the day off sick as I felt really rough. It was a good job I read the email before sending it as it was complete gibberish.
I didn’t have FAST symptoms. The III doctor didn’t spot it either. I just went to hospital by car to get a blood test and was kept in about midnight. I was conveyed to the stroke ward at 4AM.
I didn’t have any fast signs either. I was actually told by the paramedics on my second admission to hospital that they couldn’t take me to the better hospital with the neurology team as I didn’t have any fast signs despite having a stroke 2 weeks before and they thought I was having another one. Fast was the only parameters they could use to divert me to the other hospital which ultimately delayed me being re-scanned (my local hospital does not do mri,s and cta’s out of hours and weekends!)
Just popping by to say hi & welcome to the community @Jen26. Sorry to hear of your stroke & the subsequent delays you had on your 2nd visit to hospital. There are many stroke symptoms that don’t fit the FAST criteria and you would hope the paramedics would know this.
Hope you are getting on ok.
Best wishes
Ann
