Well I always report my successes here on the forum . . .
. . . but this time, in contrast, my news is not so good.
As I often say, there are ups and there are downs.
Late on Friday evening, during Storm Eowyn, there was the noise of one heck of a crash of something just outside the house.
We stayed in not wanting to take any chances.
In the afternoon, next day a neighbour knocked and told us we needed to take a look outside.
The sound we had heard was a cascade of dislodged slate from the roof that had scattered itself over my brand new car.
The bonnet and roof of the vehicle are now covered in scratches and a liberal portion of dents. It all looks a bit sad really.
The local garage has no staff in the body shop on weekends so I will have to wait until Monday to get somebody to look it over.
This is, no doubt, going to cost plenty but I suppose, in one sense, we were lucky.
People end up with a complete write off when a tree falls. Flying debris can cause serious injury and death.
I’m just pleased and thankful we avoided anything as bad as that.
Liking you post @Bobbi for your positive outlook. Just wondering where your house insurance or car insurance would view this. I suppose could be “act of God”
I’m really sorry to hear this has happened.
Oh no @Bobbi that’s not great and I hope it all gets sorted quickly for you.
We nearly lost our shed roof. It got lifted off the shed but plonked back down on it again. Hubby will be out repairing once today’s horrible weather passes through.
@Bagrat
This is punishment for my wicked ways, no doubt.
I’d better give the halo a bit of a polish. @Mrs5K
I think my scooter has been delayed by the big blow.
I hope it is still out there and on its way.
I think we need to be patient to wait, don’t want more tiles sliding down and killing the delivery driver and squashing his load.
I expect there will be plenty of work for the repairers and fixer uppers.
@Mrs5K
Hope your carer/husband/fixer upper gets his repairs done speedily and safely.
These little jobs keep us occupied, out of mischief and give a sense of satisfaction when it is all cleared up.
@Susan_Jane
You are right it does give me something to think/write about but I hope there will be no more for a while.
Anyhow, thanks all for your interest and sympathy.
May we all go forward towards happiness and satisfaction.
Oh wow, thank goodness you weren’t outside when that happened, doesn’t bear thinking about
I got hit by a small branch while driving home on Saturday, that was scary enough but no damage done. We only had a few plant pots blow over, but we acquire a few more from next door
I remember that one very well. Nearly got blown out into traffic on Euston Rd, London going to work that morning. I wondered why half the staff hadn’t come in until someone filled me in. So that’s why there was a tree on top of the neighbours car when I left for work that morning…duh…I was oblivious
I remember that one too. We were woken up that morning by a neighbour as a tree on the pavement outside our house had blown over and was leaning against our bedroom window . We had slept through the whole thing .
Yes, it was very strange. I was also oblivious and went to work by Tube and train across London not realising the extent of damage.
As an aside, a work colleague of mine being very entrepreneurial went and bought a chain saw and offered his services to cut the fallen trees in his neighbourhood and made a killing
Those were the days. As I recall they were happy days. But they say you always look back and say things were better in my days. They do don’t they? Or is my mind playing games with me?
