Hello @Rubyroo - Were you offered any support from an SaLT (Speech and Language Therapist) as part of your stroke treatment? Is it possible to get a referral to an SaLT via your GP?

@Rubyroo I think you should speak to your GP as this sounds like a new symptom for you. They will be able to do a speech & language therapy regerral.

Best wishes

Why you are stammering is probably because you are trying to speak at the same rate you did before your stroke. Your brain is functioning at a slower rate so you basically start tripping over your words, stammering.

You need to slow your speech down to speak more succinctly, so your brain can catch up with you with the word.

When I stammered over a words, I’d say la la la and try again, or blow a rasberry or rattle my togue against my teeth depending on who I’m talking to

The good news is it does get better! I’m much better than I used to be. Family and friends say the don’t really notice anymore. But I know there’s still room for improvement, I just managing to control it better🙂

Reading out loud is a good practice to get into. You can work on the speed and get more control of the pronunciations as you go. Worked for me, and I’m 4yrs post stroke😊
